I am on my second Bouvier des Flanders. Both have had great temperaments (as I was told by borders), learned very quickly (no command took more than two demonstrations), had a great understanding of what was going on around them and were (is) protective without being vicious. One time, I was looking for my cat. I jokingly asked my first bouv, "Where is Chessie?" She walked right over to the porch door where the cat was standing, waiting to come inside! I had never trained her to do that and neither did anyone else. I had zero expectation that she would respond to that, but, she did. Smart, calm dogs.

I can't imagine my dog even doing this.. she's so mellow.

Have owned 4 Bouvier - was the Breeder for the 3rd. One of the "smartest" breeds in the world. Trained 2nd Bouvier to respond to multiple hand-sign commands in less than 30 minutes.When people think a Bouvier is not that intelligent, it is normally due to the dog not responding to their commands. In the case of the Bouvier, the dog almost always knows what you want it to do - it just chooses not to listen to you. Raise a few teenagers and you will understand it is not an intelligence issue?Generally, the Bouvier can distinguish between "threats" and non-threatening people. That is why it is one of the few military/police dogs that has the highest rating for use around children.

Great serie and movie! I just bought a new Bouvier-pup and he's looking great as wel. You don't see a lot of bouviers any more in police-sport. Perhaps I'll give it a go when he gets older. J.

That dog is awesome

Usually these are great dogs for the family , Cute ,playfull, not the smartest (or the dumbest) but loyal, protective and if need be brave as hell. Treat em right and they will literally die fore your family. Ours was a great dog to have with the cats and kids sweet as honey to all those friendly. But when the day came my mom, , Needed too count on her loyalty. She gave it her all and fought of two guy´s trying too mess with her. Got hurt herself kind of badly when struck with a pipe repeatedly. Lost her left eye in it but did not give an inch. Sadly only went on to age 6 something. She is still dearly missed.

My bouvier (female) died almost 3 years ago. Great dog. Very intelligent. The coat took a lot of work though.

I have a bouvier but he isnt clipped like that one

Mon chien n'a pas pu se faire couper les oreilles, et ils a eut une otite du a un problème d'aération des oreilles, donc va t'occuper des porcs dans les usines industriel à la place

Louis Acedams j'ai eu 2 viviers. Aucun n'avais les oreilles coupés. Jamais d otites. N'importe quel chien peut avoir ds problèmes d'oreilles, ça ne veut pas dire qu'il faille leur couper. Sais tu? Les oreilles coupés peuvent aussi causer des problèmes. Les particules y tombent et peuvent causer des infections. Plutôt que d'insulter les gens qui ont un opinion suggèrent du rien, tu devrais peut être faire des recherches un peu plus large.

ZX9RDan well i had a bouvier who had continously infectec ears and the vet recommended ear cropping. I wasnt too convinced ar first but after going ahead with it she never had a ear infection afterwards. I agree that if they do it for "beauty" its not a good idea but if it helps them overcome medical problems i think its a good solution.

Mais la coupe des oreilles n en fait pas partie.Autrefois les bouviers (qui etaient physiquement tres differents d aujourd hui,plus grands,poil plus court,yeux visibles,et bcp d agressivité naturelle sans vice) etaient exclusivement des chiens de travail et de police(en Belgique et Pays Bas,surtout),aussi bons que les Malinois et bergers de l epoque.Par la suite un eleveur Belge sans scrupules pourrit la race en la croisant avec des briards pour allonger son poil.C etait mr Chastel (affixe "La Thudinie").À fuir à tout prix! Mais il existe encore quelques rares specimen de bouviers ancien type/lignee travail/bouvier de Roulers/Roeselaere en Belgique et surtout aux Pays Bas.
