Bounty Killer afrobeats have no lyrics

What's good fam, I ran into this interview of legendary Dancehall artiste Bounty Killer. He gave his views on the state of Dancehall music and other views. What caught my attention was his opinion on Afrobeats, he said it had style and topic but no lyrics! Burna Boy who is the current leader in the genre also confirms this statement. Rema who also had amazing success also confirmed that certain songs don’t need much lyrics. My viewis that some genres are not made to be super lyrical but more of a get away from the complexities of life i.e. Afrobeats and Soca. Today’s music artists are not focused on complicated lyrics, but more so on a vibe and having fun. What’s your thoughts ?

He isn't jealous. He was comparing the state of dancehall and how it is going down because it is too lyrical. He was praising afrobeat and showing how they don't have lyrics its more topic and style, because the beat pretty much carries the song. And lets be clear, the new afro beat comes from the black western sounds and rhythm. It's a mix of all the genres from African American music.

You guys are incorrect, Rema wasnt referring to song Calm Down, he was referring to another song. I was born in Jamaica and some reggae lyrics dont mske sense but beat make it popular

Listen to the full interview. He is trashing the current state of dancehall. He is talking about what afro beats is doing right and what dancehall is doing wrong.
