Bougainville Copper AGM 2019

In April 2019, Bougainville Copper travelled to Arawa, Panguna and Buka to interview landowners, ex-Bougainville Copper employees, Bougainville Copper Foundation scholarship recipients and people who lived in the mine affected area.
This was the first time Bougainville Copper had been invited back into Panguna since the 1990 Compensation Payments in 2016.
The purpose of the team’s visit was to gather opinions of the villages in the mine area and surrounds. It is clear from the footage which we are about to witness, that our hardworking team, our Village Liaison Officers in particular, are doing a fantastic job, assisting Bougainville Copper re-connect with Bougainville. We hope to continue to strengthen our relationships, support our community and work towards a sustainable future for the people of Bougainville and the company.
Thank you to the following who helped make this video possible
- The Panguna Development Committee
- The people of Pok Pok Village, Guava Village, Moroni Village, Dapera Village

- Bairima Primary School
- Our Village Liaison Officers

It's better to deal with the devil you know rather than the one you don't know. Therefore it would make alot more sense to invite BCL back to lead the mine into the future and also sort out other outstanding issues such as environment etc. I am from Buka and Nissan island.

I worked for BCL 30 years ago, my best ever employer. They did many great things for the island and people, the destruction that started in 1988 was a tragedy for the people of Bougainville. The crazy radicals that started the destruction are not friends of the people. Some Bougainville people say the suffering was terrible but at least you now have your freedom, that's crazy....you always had your freedom.

Don't be blinded by this lip service. The issue here isn't a land owner issue anymore. The people of Buka suffered, lost lives and properties and it should be an issue for all Bvilleans and not the so called landowners. Where was BCL before??
