Finally back to Romans & Celts on this one 🤟Really enjoyed it! Hope you’re hanging on in there folks. I was originally planning on making a visit to Colchester, and a few other villas etc for this video, but due to recent events thought it best not to travel. Various other trips throughout the year I’ll probably be calling off too. I tend to focus on what the experts are saying during a time like this, and the overwhelming advice at the moment seems to be to stay inside whenever possible. For a hermit like me that’s fine and obviously everyone can’t stay inside due to work, commitments etc. But for those of you going out drinking, socialising etc, just remember, for the majority of people it’s not your own health you gotta look out for, but your neighbour, and over-worked hospital. In these trying times let’s all bunker down and wait for this to all blow over. All we’ve gotta do is stay inside with a good history book, there’s no Celtic warrior queen outside questioning the integrity of our ancestors if we don’t fight in her army. Life’s pretty good all things considered! Anyway hope you enjoy the video, many more on the way! Don’t forgot to like, subscribe and let me know what you think in the comments. Remember- WASH YOUR HANDS

No matter how many times I hear the story of the Icenae, I'm deeply moved. I don't doubt that they were fierce, even if they made beautiful metal work. They remind me of Mongolian and other Steppe dwelling nomads - independent, strong willed and deeply spiritual, trusting their sages and gods for direction. Whether by some standard they were wild or barbaric, it beside the point, because every nation, no matter it's size prefers to maintain sovereignty. Being taxed and sold into slavery brings the lowest state of living.

The Iceni didn't fight against the Roman's when they were invading Britain. They chose to bend the knee and accept Roman rule. It was 20 years AFTER the Romans had invaded and had been ruling Britain , then her husband, king Prasutagus, died & Thats when things went wrong for her, ( as we know), So she only rebelled because of what happened to her and her daughters, Some might say that's karma , for not joining with the other Celts in fighting against Rome 20 years earlier.

I love your documentaries, Pete. They are well researched and put together. They are better produced than many produced by the large networks. I cannot imagine the amount of work that you put into these. I'm an ex pat Brit and your programmes transport me back to the beloved land of my youth. I did not appreciate the wealth of ancient and dark age history that Britain had to offer when I lived in England and wish that I had the opportunity now to explore and dig deep. However your wonderful documentaries go a very long way in quenching my thirst for knowledge of these magical past times. I am so grateful to you ❤💛 and have subscribed to your other channel. Only twice in almost 25 years as an archaeologist have I gone deep enough to see the remains of the boudiccan rebellion in Verulamium , a thin layer of ash & burnt wood, no more than a couple centimeters thick , but then the Romans had only been in Britain 20 years, the new Roman city was barely 15 years old before boudicca burned it down. Thd people were pre warned, they were gone before boudicca turned up. A few stragglers may have been caught, but majority of people had gone, into the woods or other places they new about, weve never found any mass graves , geo physics hasn't discovered anything either.

@@mrrigatone9595 the total amount of years the Romans ruled Britain WAS around 400 years , The last legions left around 410 ad. But when the boudiccan rebellion happened the Romans had only been here about 20 years, The Romans came here around 40 ad , boudicca kicked off around 60 ad . Originally, her tribe the Iceni welcomed the Romans, they bent the knee and wouldn't join the other tribes who had united to fight the Romans. Things went wrong for the Iceni AFTER boudiccas husband ( king Prasutagus ) died, we all know what happened next. Many people believe that she rebelled against the Roman's because she was patriotic or because it was the right thing to do, Which is wrong, she was treated badly as were her daughters That's the only reason she did what she did.

To think, shortly after all the mayhem in Britain, some of the legions were pulled to fight another rough revolt in Judaea. Vespasian and his Tenth legion must have seen some crazy shit in their days. I might have to read Tacitus again, because I never thought of him as impartial. He came off as an angry, bitter old partisan to me. Maybe I was wrong, it has been a while. As per usual, this is another gem of a documentary. Stay safe all.

Inspirational? Boudica massacred innocent Roman civilians, then cornered a Roman army 10 times smaller than hers and still managed to lose the battle, killing 80,000 of her compatriots... How is this inspirational? It just shows she was an incompetent female leader with zero knowledge of battle tactics and the mentality of a war criminal that led her people to ruin, just like Cleopatra.

A balance , in what sense? Both being women ? Or bc both agreed to not fight the Romans when they invaded ? Neither were heroines, One rebelled bc her peace backfired when her husband died The other a traitor to Celtic Britain bc she drugged & handed over the Celtic warrior Caratacus who continued fighting the Romans after the invasion ?
