Much love from the Glove 🧤. Whenever I’m in the UP (upper peninsula) I just feel so alive, clean, and healthy…(in the summer) as I look at the vast expanse of pine from the uninhabited white sandy beach shoreline I can just envision the land occupied by the Native American Indians. Much of the land probably looks no different now than it did way back then. Lake Superior is so beautiful and clean…..cold and dangerous though….

It's fun looking at your take on the day. You sure did focus on those brachiopods that I skipped right past. It was fun reliving the whole day. I have to say that was one of the most beautiful and enjoyable days of the summer so far. I have looked at the picture I have of that Petoskey Stone several times since you left. That's a beauty!

If that chain coral fossil is silica I would throw it in some muriatic acid to dissolve the limestone host rock. I've seen some folks do that and they turn out AWESOME! As long as the coral is silica... lol be careful.

I live on the west side of the Mitten and an abandoned property (for 15 plus years) across the road from me has a decorative rock bed with hundreds of Petoskey and Charlevoix stones along with a LOT of the names you dropped that I am unfamiliar with. We have rescued most of the recognizable fossils (there is construction happening and the stones are being buried/ removed) but I am wanting now to go back and save some of the other things! I believe I have seen lots of Gowanda as well

Anyone in the north western Michigan that can give me a lead, or a chance to be part of a get shit done, help eachorher out, community, count me in, ill be you huklebearrer. I wo t contribute to any people that live with famine mentality. There's what a man can do and what and can't do. My daughter's BFF and her family moved to Jordan and before leaving I polished her and her 2 siblings some Petoskey stones and made them all key chains that said "A piece of home forever near" Civil War broke out in Jordan just 2 years after they moved there so they returned Petoskey stones in tow.

Yeah Cool! I have visited Michigan a few times, in my youth. In the 1970s, in Ann Arbor. Back then there was a nice, large, natural lake, on one side of town. I have this sick feeling they drained it & filled it in, because they wanted build more housing & apartments. We went there another time, and the whole lake had been drained,....We goofed around & went treasure hunting, under all the boat docks. We found many keys, coins, & sunglasses from every era. A few semi-collectible items, like old lighters, wood fishing lures, kids toys. The lake bed was still spongy to walk on which felt bizarre underfoot, but it was not muddy at all.

Just south of Lansing is a little town called Holt. It has a series of old gravel pits. at one point we were told (born and raise in this town...) that the pits broke thru to the underground river... I just kayaked part of it Saturday Evening...and yes, @Valiant Warrior they are creepy if you let your self think about it too much...lol
