Agree with everything you said about the BSA. I bought a brand new one a couple of years ago. Very disappointing. Loose stock screws, terrible trigger and useless moderator/cocking aid. Even after some tinkering the accuracy was very average. In fact I've had better break barrels for less than half the price.

Yeah but you maybe had BSAs from before Gamo bought them out, a bit like how the quality went downhill for Webley after they were bought out, but nowhere near as bad. A friend I go shooting with had a Lightning, it's one of the worst rifles I've shot, build quality was shocking & trigger exactly like mentioned in this review. That gun started galling really badly & he gave it away. Really bad thing is they're more expensive than HW99S which knocks spots off Lightning.

Hi, I am new to your channel and have just subscribed. I've watched many gun and equipment review channels over many years and I believe that most of them start out with honest reviews but as they get more popular and get more manufacturers offering incentives I lose faith with them. on the other hand I can understand the temptation. I hope you are well healed enough to just keep telling it how it is as I am sure a lot of us buy stuff after watching these revues, very interesting and informative thanks

Hi @dph57...I'll try! In truth and to somewhat appease your concerns, I had an agreement (still do actually) with HIKMICRO to review their products. Check out my vids and you'll see I was given one to review. Sorry to say, it simply did not meet my standards and I couldn't even sight it in properly as the image was too pixelated to use as a rifle scope. The product was returned and I haven't heard back from them! The agreement stated that I had to run my reviews by them first before publishing, so I couldn't release my findings. But there's nothing to say in that agreement that I can't discuss what happened. I get where you're coming from with regards viewers buying on the strength of reviews...those reviews should be honest! I hate being sold a dud! And money is too hard to come by these days to waste it on crap. I just wish people would respect what it is I am trying to do because I have been slated on several occasions for publishing my findings. Thanks for taking the time to comment and welcome to the channel. All the best

Nice to see honest reviews, both those BSAs I had issues with, older scorpion t10 was excellent although it took XTX tuning to get it absolute top notch, the scorpion SE though shot like an absolute dog and the lightening tactical se was the single worst spring gun I've owned, utterly awful to shoot. Strangely the Gamo phox and coyote I own are both superb?!? The Turkish guns seem a lottery, a friend has a reximex Lyra, decent quality and it shoots like a laser, just inconsistent quality. .

Hi @matthewanslow7685...thanks. Of the Turkish guns, I would stick with Kral. The other makes such as Reximex buy their products from, or have taken the designs from Kral. The owners are all related in some way...brothers, sisters or cousins. They tend to be lesser quality and more inconsistent. That's not to say that Kral's don't have issues, they do, but they are easily rectified. All the best

Must admit I bought a Lightning XL tactical years ago and didn't get as far as properly testing for accuracy because it had a faulty trigger unit. After taking it back to the shop for a second time I decided to upgrade my purchase to an AA S400. I have other BSA rifles which are pretty good though (Cadet, Airsporter, Ultra SE) so although the Lightning XL was a lemon I would still buy another BSA in future. I like the look of the Meteor Super.

I had a BSA scorpion se in .22 gas ram. It was very harsh to shoot and literally shook itself to pieces. The trigger guard became loose along with the stock screws. What was even worse it destroyed two of my scopes crosshairs so the block that sits on top of the rifle with the rubber strip to absorb vibration through the scope is useless. Took it back and part exchanged it. Had a BSA R10 se and according to BSA I’d get 190 shots out of it in .177,but realistically I’d get 120, which is still decent but nowhere near what BSA claims. Always good to watch honest reviews like these so as people can make up their own minds, unlike certain magazines I could mention. Sorry this is turning into a rant😮

Sorry you got such a poor lightning I own several supersports from early ones to the lightning like this one, cant say I have had any serious issue with any of them. I would say that gamo who despite claims to the contrary build these guns now, have always had a problem with telling the truth and their slightly slap dash approach to construction and assembly is legendary. I would send it back and get them to replace it or sort it. I would also like to point out that 88 decibels not an uncommon rating for many moderators., but in this day and age we all hope for much better.

Have to agree that the BSA Lightning is disappointing. As you say all the statistics are incorrect and the trigger is appalling. I tested over 100 brands and weights of pellets and the best 5 pellet grouping I got was 11mm though this was only at 10 meters. That with the same pellets 5 shot groups would vary between 11mm to 24mm. RWS Super Dome 14.5g. I'm surprised we won the war with BSA rifles.

I read in a trade magazine down my club last week that said all PCP's are machined and built at Armoury Road which includes Gamo PCP's, to faclitate that they moved springer production to Spain but are bringing it back to Birmingham along with the Gamo designed SAT triggers used in springers. All the BSA made barrels are stamped & most of the upper end Gamo guns use them. It seems to be one of these cases where half a doz manufacturers are semi independent under a bigger banner so each one says 'our manufacturing'...@@jimmynich4791

Got one Ultra SE .177, a Ultra MMC .177 and a Ultra MMC .22 and I rejected Bisley pellets in all of them. They like JSB, AA Field and RWS Superfield. All three have bben utterly faultless the only problem being the early BSA mag where the O ring was too thin and not set deep enough. The newer mags are fine. The problems with the olders mags not feeding can be sorted by loading them from the opposite side tail first. Yes the trigger can be a bit sloppy with side to side play but nothing a thin shim can't sort in seconds. As for accuracy, use the right pellet and they are a one holer. Anyone can moan about any rifle and it gets attention but for every one of them there dozens who are 100% happy and just quietly get on with the job. It's the same with any brand..the malcontents make by far the most noise..

This will make a massive difference at 30M I hope this helps in determining what's wrong. On one shot the love was 10mm higher. Even squeezing the gun further into your check can make the difference between knocking the pip out of the target or not when one click of windage might be too much. 👍

I have an old Mercury that seems nicer to shoot and more accurate than the more recent Supersport/Lightning (in my hands at least). No BSA springer has ever matched the accuracy on tap from Weihrauchs and Gamos that I've owned although my little BSA Ultra has yet to be beaten by any .22 PCP including far more expensive air rifles. Sadly I've yet to get on with any Turkish made air rifle, be that springer or PCP. I've always suspected that the barrel quality is less refined than other makes.

It doesn’t matter how brilliant a BSA barrel is, because it’s only as good as the weakest link as you showed, I was surprised at the Snowpeaks grouping results I think manufacturers took a step backwards when they adopted self indexing magazines. When you think how soft lead is and how thin the skirt is so you force it against a stop and into the breach and then your surprised to have skirt deformation, Weihrauch have the right idea as did Daystate until the launch of the Huntsman Revere. It would have been interesting to see if the group tightened up when using a loading tray or placing the pellet in the breach manually. Yet another brilliant video though.👍

One things for sure,. 22's ain't as accurate as. 177's, the proof was there in this vid.. Then again it's common knowledge, you stick ( say) 10 rifles in. 177 against there. 22 siblings, (that's 10 different brands) my guess is the. 177 would come out on top 9/10... Over your 30mtr range.. And in ideal conditions.. I realise that you might have been given duffers to test.. And I'm going a bit off topic.. But I had to get it off my chest..

I don't know you expect to shoot accurately with any rifle particularly air rifles, when the scope is mounted so high above the bore line.

  • @theGunLocker

    @theGunLocker

    7 ай бұрын

Depends on the rifle...refer to my comments at the end of the video with the scope mount on the BSA Lightning - absolutely pointless. Some rifles have high scope rails. But saying that, once you know how your rifle shoots, it's more about getting your distance accurately measured before taking your shot and referring to your D.O.P.E card for placement. If the the rifle is consistently accurate, then shot placement should be consistent. All the best and thanks for watching.

Many thanks for your reply. I consider it a design fault if a scope on any rifle cannot be mounted close as possible to the bore. One of the effects of a high mounted scope is to exaggerate the effect of any unintended cant and also in some cases to provide poor cheek weld.@@theGunLocker

The new Diana's are a bit shart too...the quality has dropped off since Meyer sold them.... they've always made some odd engineering choices (bevel breeches, dogleg transfer ports etc) but now the finish isn't as good ....and the price hasn't dropped. @@garynewsham9117 Lol, I'll steer clear of the Gamo built ones then. I've heard the BSA Lightning shoots better than the Lightning XL, I haven't had a chance to test that myself though. Perhaps with such a short barrel inside the shroud the XL was given a stronger spring to make it full power(?) which in turn made it loud, increased recoil and gave the trigger mechanism a more difficult task.
