How sad when we live in a world where the Kardashians are seen as role models by young girls when we have amazing woman like these two out there who are unknown to most.
@nbisho01
Жыл бұрын
Its all access to popular culture. In America, Kardashians are popular because people like drama and care a lot about looks and being hip, whereas these girls cater to more niche communities. Sucks too because Kardashians are definitely not positively influencing the minds of our youth

Sorry but these two do the same exact things. They constantly stream in skimpy clothing talking about trivial non-sense while making suggestive faces or poses for male viewership and clicks. Being good at chess on top of everything else isn't enough of an extra layer to somehow cancel the rest out.

Love this theme of chess players being in the podcast. I played in highschool and stopped once I became an “adult”. You’ve reignited my love for chess though and am now playing hours a day again. Thank you Lex 🙏🏻
I love how Alexandra threw in questions of her own. It turned an interview situation into an insight-seeking conversation.
Awesome guests Lex, these two sisters are incredibly fascinating and you once again found them! Great job, great show!!
I'm really glad to see the botez sisters on here. I feel like I learned a lot more about them in this podcast and they are the reason I started playing chess like a year ago. I'm a big fan 🥺
Consistently fascinating, and always varied. I’m so glad you had the Botez sisters on and addressed the controversy. Great podcast. Thank you again.
There's a Futurama quote that says "when you do things right, people won't be sure that you've done anything at all." And that's exactly how I feel about the Botez sisters. Their stardom feels like nothing. It feels completely natural for them to be as famous as they've become.
Your opening monologue hooked me. I look forward to listening to more of your discussions.
Both humbling and hopeful to meet these youngsters with really beautiful minds. Thanks man. You consistently make the world seem like a better place.
I love how Alexandra turns a lot of Lex's questions back on him, or questions some of his value statements. It really shows how much of a lifelong learner she is. She isn't there to talk about herself she's there to explore ideas with Lex and wants to know what's in his head box

Alex saying "Imagine being so intelligent that you could become a grandmaster, and yet only spending the rest of your life being a grandmaster." was kinda wild to think about. It's because 1. Chess doesn't require high intelligence. It's just pattern recognition from other games. All u do is play the best lines that have always already been played. That doesn't require intelligence. Just memory. You didn't create some new genius move. 2. Chess is a dead end. It only makes u good at chess and nothing else. The skill of chess doesn't leak into other areas. And chess doesn't help make the world a better place.

Overall this episode is beautiful. Beautiful both visually and mentally. Alex is brilliant lady. So is Andrea. Lex is the role model. Lex, thank you for putting your effort out there and creating this valuable informational art that we not only love to be exposed to but I dare to say that we should. Thank you for putting love into the world.
This CD is very calming kzread.infoUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq the first meditation focuses on breathing, the second guides you through the Buddhist metta bhavana--loving kindness to all, and the third is a meditation to be used when walking. him is originally from Scotland, so there is a little accent to his voice, but it is very soothing and not at all distracting. If you are a beginner to meditation, this CD will walk you through all the steps of relaxing and breathing as well as sending out the positive thoughts of love and kindness that will be returned to you. We have several CD's, but this one is a favorite that we choose most often.

Chess parallels MMA/Jiu jitsu on many levels. Both individual competitions with many time control variations that may give an advantage to one participant over another. Winning is often by tapping or resigning when one is "defeated", or by stoppage/mate. The prepping for a particular opponent, the idea that a fighter might be more comfortable in certain lines/positions than another equally rated player. The fighters also often attach a sense of worth to an outcome even tho anyone can slip up and suddenly lose to a foe considered not as strong. I could realloy go on with the similarities, but I'm sure many others are thinking of them now.

Bravo to Lex, Alexandra and Andrea, My dad taught me chess as a young boy and never 'let' me win. I kept up with it because he showed me my mistakes and possible options along the way to being able to compete with him. Lex, It's interesting to hear your guests describe the moves in descriptive terms as known strategies. Naïve as I am, many of the move sequences just feel instinctual to me, probably because I learned so young and never knew the names of what I was doing. It's an odd feeling to know where things are probably going on your opponent's first move or two because you can perceive their ability. People competitively over extended miss the obvious traps to my advantage. "mistakes" realized are the difference. I've taught friends who went on to destroy well heeled braggarts at the game.
#1 Rule when renting a car in Italy.....get the smallest model possible, to survive the narrow streets and increase your odds of finding a parking space.

@@universe25.x Usually, but not always. The places with heavy tourism often have areas of paid parking.

Woke up and decided to check KZread for any new chess cheating controversy news, and to see if Lex had any new interviews up. Crazy.
My favorite part is 1:22:17 "Is there an aspect of chess that opens the door for crazy?" is a clutch question by lex
It was nice to get a feel for their perspective on things
Lex I feel like we are two of the same. I am an electrical engineer, 4 years into my jiu jitsu journey and I've been playing chess since I was 10 (I am now 30). Please get Hikaru on and start posting some videos of you rolling. I'm just one guy but nothing would make me happier

Would be interesting to have Josh Waitzkin on the podcast too. He went from chess prodigy and International Master to martial arts competitor, and has a black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu

Hikaru? nah. Another GM would be better.
Nice, been following those two for a few months now, they sure are great chess ambassadors. If you want to do a light-hearted chess podcast, I recommend Jan Gustafsson, pretty funny guy.

He's the funniest guy in chess imo. Many don't seem to get his humour though 🙂
This was both a inspirational, beautiful and interesting video. Some times i have a certain level as the goal, and if i get stuck to close to that goal for to long, i get both bored and nervous for each time i am about to play. My main take from this video is that i must learn to just play for fun and not think about the level, and that alone make me want to play again. Also, i do not think i have seen the Botez sisters like this before, and i love it, i am not able to point a finger at exactly what it is, but maybe it is kind of more relaxed then it usually is. (i must admit that their usual style is also entertaining, but in general i prefer this style more.) 🙂 One of the sentences i use when i am a bit down is: The sun always shine above the skies. And skies are never permanent. 🙂
Interesting note: When they made the Queens Gambit, the directors initially had planned to have Garry Kasparov play Borgov. However, the movie length for filming was too long for him from chess tournaments, so he offered to help make the chess more realistic over the board at least!
Two interviews for the price of one? Lex is really stepping his game up.
Damn loving this chess content Lex!
