    Stan Bush & Vince DiCola. absolute Legends. (Stan looking facially quite like Marty McFly here)

    For people commenting that the audience was dead or clueless for not clapping or cheering during the performance, we were basically in awe of seeing these guys performing Transformers music live for anybody for the first time. Really, though, most concerts don't have people making bunches of noise during each song because they're trying to hear and enjoy the music. Also, from a technical standpoint, the microphones that were intended to record the audience weren't set correctly, so you really can't hear anything we might have been doing anyway. One spot you can (barely) hear is at 7:22 when Vince starts the coda with bits from Autobot / Decepticon Battle. And, of course, when we erupted at the end of the whole 1½ hour concert. Taken as a whole, despite the flaws in the performance, this concert was one of the signature events of the 3H years of BotCon.

    Been to several concerts and the audience always claps along or sings along. The volume of the performance is usually loud enough that it makes no difference

    @@acollectionofthings Plus we're hearing the mix which was sent to the PA rather than a mix balanced for this recording (the clue for me as to just how bad this mix is is how "stabby" the keyboard sounds at the start of "The Touch" at the same gig). I also suspect he didn't have great monitors so he wouldn't have been able to hear what he was doing perfectly (in later years technology moved forwards which made things so much easier). We've got to recognise that those are some utterly ridiculous notes he's hitting and I doubt there are many people who could even pretend to sing it in this key. That's some serious vocal stunt work he's doing there! His more recent performances have been dropped down a key because when you get older you lose a little bit of range but that doesn't take anything away from what he's doing.

    @@acollectionofthingsJust curious, since you've mentioned in other comments that you've talked with the 3H crew and that you were at the show, was that something that you heard from those guys, or just speculation?

  • @acollectionofthings

    @acollectionofthings

    3 ай бұрын

    @@RyanArchiveDump My comment was a mixture of direct reporting and personal experience with singing and being around singers. Two things stand out when considering the concert as a whole: not having the show memorized and being out of shape on vocal endurance. This became more obvious in the later portion of the concert when he was singing with the other guys because his higher pitches became more uncertain and he had to take more shortcuts of using falsetto. I certainly don't fault him for running out of gas by the end as it was a demanding show, but he didn't do himself any favors by establishing his style as always being placed in the upper end of his range. Still, I give his performance in the concert a solid B+ overall.
