BOSTON The Launch - Cool the Engines

From the first time I heard this song this is what I envisioned. Putting on my headphones, turning the volume to MAX, closing my eyes, Boston's The Launch always evoked images of the countdown, the engines igniting, and shuttle lifting slowly from the pad, flame smoke and ash filling the air.

I honestly can't remember what was played, or if anything was played upon entering my wedding reception. Of course, that was over 26 years ago and I had open heart surgery almost 8 years ago. My memory is shot! But... I DO remember our wedding night! Hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, Hot!

I remember when this dropped. Was just giddy with anticipation after so long without an album. And hearing this the first time was just incredible and worth the wait. From what I remember this song was written and recorded back in the day and had been relegated to a storage room somewhere on a deteriorating reel to reel and was almost lost to time so parts that wouldn't play had to be rewritten to complete the song. BRAVO!!

In 1983 my best man and I got up at 2:am and headed to Edwards Air Force Base to see Columbia land. We heard the sonic booms and then saw it appear as the Sun was rising. Due to the sun just coming up, all of the white on the Shuttle was orange. We then scedaddled to Cal State Northridge to get to our Thermodynamics class. We were late. The Professor, Dr. Sidney Schwartz called us on the carper and said he was glad we joined but asked why we were late. We told him we had just came back from seeing the Space Shuttle land. We instantly turned into heroes as he was one of the lead Engineers in designing the Space Shuttle Engines..... We totally hijacked the class for that day.Amazing technology and dedication from all involved in the Program.....

The part from 2:55-3:11...dam, I could watch that 100 times, and it would never get old. As Atlantis is cracking through the sound barrier with a blasting guitar, it gives the image of a guy with a mullet at the controls, hammering the throttle and screaming, "Let's see what this baby can do!!" 3:10 -"See ya!" You timed that perfectly. Good show!

Some of us are working way too hard, it's probably the majority of us not some of us... we are being pushed way too hard. Things just need to slow down. We have to somehow simplify things. To the uploader: I think the same thing here... looking at the album covers that the band has and the song titles that they have to go along with it and listening to the songs it all does make me think of space too. The music is just something I could imagine to be playing in the cosmos in some space shuttle as the shuttle and it's crew drift around in space looking at everything out there... that is the beauty of space. It really is the 'final frontier' as they say and every nation needs to have their space program because eventually we will have to colonize on another planet and when we do Boston will be some of the music that I will be playing when I'm ready to go colonize with our fellow human beings. That said: Boston has much special meaning behind them... space and the very concept of owning and operating a starship has been one of my passionate interests for awhile now. ... Sorry for the walls of text people... I just love this band and space.

I was in my father's basement looking for some good vinyls because I knew he had good ones and I saw this. Boston Third Stage. The only song I knew was "Amanda" but the band is much more than that. Amazing album, amazing band.

This is one of the most awesome videos on KZread!! Anyone who's ever been to a shuttle launch can tell you what an amazing sight it was. I got to see Discovery launch back in 2008. How can people give this a thumbs down? 17 knuckleheads who have no taste or appreciation for anything.

I heard this today on SiriusXM for the first time in decades. Somehow the radio volume increased as I was sitting at a gas pump waiting to get out and start pumping. Excellent video.

This, sir, is fucking amazing. The first time I heard this song, I was 10 years old on vacation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, sitting on the porch of the house my family had rented, listening to my music as the sun rose. It was a truly spiritual experience that spawned a love for the seemingly eternal optimism that exists in good music and the way that optimism pushes us to explore without fear. This is like a reel of my childhood, and I thank for providing such intoxicating nostalgia.

I have to say, this is one of the BEST videos I have ever seen! I was fortunate enough to live through the space era. My guess is you are too young to remember any of this. I watched the moon landing on tv along with the rest of the world. Time STOPPED. My heart still skips a beat when I see the footage of the rockets and NASA channel of our planet. I never thought I would live to see the government stop and close down our space program. It makes my heart hurt just thinking. It was a magical time to live in. Now at 63 yrs, I can remember it all like it waS YESTERDAY. You have done a wonderful job with this video. I have watched it three times in a row. Thank you.

Not a huge Boston fan, but grew up listening to them (via Mom and Dad) and was obsessed with their album art as a kid. I do love NASA, space and especially the shuttle. As an older kid now, I can really appreciate the marriage of song and this video. Nice work, and yes, good song!

I have this on LP and CD. As we all know, when we got the CD format all the wonderful artwork that was often on the larger LP canvas was lost or miniaturized to such a degree that many times it became irrelevant. On the inside cover of this LP is a picture of the organ used in this song. I remember reading or hearing that this organ is the largest pipe organ in the world and is in the city of Boston. It has an unbelievable sound.
