    I can give you 5 reasons you SHOULD GET a Boston Terrier: Very lovable. Intelligent. Makes a great companion for adults and kids. They are great "snuggle bunnies", They are eager to please their "mom and dad". I have had 9 Boston's since 1982, each one lived to be 15-16 years old. Our current one, Mr. Spock, is wonderful Boston.

    If they are so intelligent why are they so difficult to potty train? No pun intended.. just curious. I'm loving everything I see about the Bostin but I keep hearing about potty training problems. Any information you can share I would appreciate it. Thanks.

    7 months ago I got my 2nd BT. I had zero issues that you mention with my first little guy. Naturally, when he passed, in time, I found a breeder and brought home my second little guy. Omgosh!!! He has EVERY breathing issue you mention. I took him to a specialist in brachycephalic dogs. She preformed a soft palate reduction and nasal flares enlargement. The first two weeks post surgery was a dream. He seemed so much better ... However he is now 3 months post surgery and he's back to where he was pre surgery. It's heart breaking. Let me say here, that he has an excellent quality of life because we are totally tuned into his strengths and are very conscious of his limitations which are not all that many, other than length of time he tolerates heat and plays fetch before we break for water and couch hugs. He is not gassy and neither was my 1st BT. However his snoring can raise the dead and he gets very a phlegmie throat. The specialist said to give him half of a zyrtec which does help the phlegm, and it works perfectly for him. I just thought I'd share my BT experience with you. And I'll add, I wouldn't have any other breed. If you want a wonderful, fun, love of a breed then a BT is for you. Thank you.

    The main reason that brachycephalic breeds pass gas isn't because of the air intake...at least that's not the main reason. The main reason in Bostons and Frenchies are because they are allergic and cannot digest a lot of ingredients commonly found in most commercial dog food. When you switch your Boston or Frenchie over to a fresh or raw diet, the gas will cease almost completely.

    Easiest dogs I've ever had to potty train were my Male rat terrier and my rough collie. Both were pretty reliable after a week. After that if they had an accident it was my fault.

    I got a Boston Terrier puppy, first dog ever, for me and for my wife. So... total novices. I did read a lot about puppies in general and specifically about Boston Terriers. I must say, I never had one issue with this dog, other than one accident here and there while potty training. But it was really minor. Right now, the dog is just 7 months old and can be left alone and no destruction ensues, for the most part, follows our commands. When I read that they are stubborn dogs or that they are hard to train or potty train or anything like that, I think it's mostly the owners fault. Wife and I took our time, followed the rules and routine, and the dog as he is right now is the best behaved dog we know (comparing with friends). Again, I think, with a breed like this that's low energy and likes being around people, if you are having troubles with it, it's your fault. If it's a Husky... well, that's another story.

    You have to be on top of the dog, if you see the dog starting to smell frantically, quickly take him to the designated pee spot and praise him wildly, even give him treats. Do this for 1-2 weeks and you'll be done for life. It was really easy to train my BT

    I have to be honest I think I’ve gotten really lucky but I got my Boston Terrier potty trained in about a month & half. And I tried to look for a puppy with more of a snout than your typical Boston….she is a little stubborn but compared to a hot dog she’s breathe to train…she’s is 4 and I keep training her on new things…taken I knew that socialization and training was veryyyy important when she was a puppy so I did invest a lot of time and money to that…she does have sensitive skin and that’s also something that the breed deals with…this video kind of makes it clean to me that I got very lucky with my pup ☺️

    As a first time Boston owner and first time having a dog from being a pup ive gotta say the toilet training for us not an issue. She went from using puppy pads to asking to go out within a couple of days. The snoring and farting are spot on though but we knew that before we got her 😆

    Pure speculation and stuff you've read online the majority of which would apply to most dogs. All these videos and breed specific channels are "insert dog breed name here" and clearly just designed to push your books. Bostons are very intelligent and very trainable and easily toilet trained. Breathing problems are almost nonexistent with responsible breeding.

  • @shoplorelei9575

    @shoplorelei9575

    Well, sometimes as in human breeding, you get a pup that does present with breathing issues. Im sure you would agree that you can be the most dedicated, responsible breeder and still have a pup that has some problems. But brachycephalic dogs are not unusual in snub faced breeds. I've had dogs all my life, by far Boston Terrier are the best breed.

    @@shoplorelei9575 absolutely, my frustration was more that you could change the breed in the title of this video to anything and it would roughly fit. Of course there's breathing problems, but not as common as with pugs or bulldogs for example.

    I think the BT is healthier, it's leaner and a bit less smooshed in the snout. When you research problematic breeds, the bulldogs (english and french) almost always make the list. The BT not so much.
