Hold up... that Spock roll that crescendos around 18:10 ... one quad plays a roll, another throws in singles, and 2 of them throw in some 2-4’s. Hilarious. Absolutely hilarious. That’s not supposed to work.

Hey fellas I found the Facebook post from Colin regarding the prototype snares. “We have new Yamaha snare proto types....game changer for tuning. No more air trapped in the shell.. more air holes by strainer and snare unit, they sound more like the late 80s wood shells ala BD 88, no need to mess with guts etc”

I had to watch it at x0.5 speed but that’s what it looks/sounds like slowed down. As fast as it is, it’s really hard to tell the difference between a triplet based tap 5, and a fivelet. One sixteenth note triplet space between the the next note vs having one less 16th before the next accent… but either way g.d. were they playing at such a high level

They 1 trillion should’ve won the Sanford if it was a normal summer, but at this point it’s just so hard to imagine them giving it to a corps other than SCV or BD after 8 years, especially a corps relatively new to the top 6 like Boston Also those were indeed Shirley Murphies in the snare break

Awesome video fellas. Boston was on fire this year and I loved watching them. One thing that might have contributed to their more relaxed approach is the fact that Mike Jackson joined the team as a consultant. I am in no way affiliated with the corps, and I don’t know how involved his role was, but I would imagine he had something to do with it. The opening book chunk also sounds similar to BK 2017 show beats with the broken up offbeat triplet partial pattern. Coincidence? Maybe. Anyway, that’s my .02. Looking forward to the next video!

Awesome reaction guys! I love this channel. In terms of the more relaxed approach for anyone curious, it’s always been the philosophy honestly. But I’d say it’s a culmination of the consistency in instruction settling in and the individual players ability to take in that instruction and embody that approach and take it to life, exactly how you guys said it. In 2017 and 18, the players for sure had to get used to a new approach which I commend them for pulling off, especially for those who have been in the program already and had to essentially retrain how they would approach the instruments. But over time, it really settled in as new players came in and likely didn’t have to break down what they knew for so long and build back up. I’d also say the section leaders largely influenced the approach both stylistically and just fundamentally. The center here always had a very natural relaxed approach and it really rubbed off. His hands are a great expression and example of the teaching philosophy. As you guys said in previous videos, all the buzz words like soft hands etc. Colin’s baseline of instruction is always “rebound” or “bounce” and they train and teach from that baseline and build up from there. Hopefully that makes sense! I know a lot of folks had interpreted previous programs output as aggressive and pounding but it was definitely the opposite (at least tried to be lol), perhaps just a visual interpretation of how the style comes across, I.e high velocity, visually aggressive etc having been on the Cadets side as a member and then transitioning briefly to Boston staff myself! It’s awesome seeing those teachings come through. Of course every group is different as well, Individual skill set and all the other variables also like you said in the video! People like to ask about the approach so hopefully this gives anyone wondering a fair understanding haha. Great content again guys🤙🏼
