Boston Celtics blow out Miami Heat in Game 1 behind Jayson Tatum triple double

Спорт

The Celtics came out strong, went on a big run, and kept it rolling for basically the entire game (minus an early fourth quarter lull) to win a wire-to-wire blowout over the Heat in Game 1 of their opening round series. Jayson Tatum's triple-double was a big part of Boston taking advantage of everything the Heat threw at them. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal gets into all of that, how the defense and rebound played a massive part in the blowout, and why the amount of 3-pointers they took was just fine. Also, was the Caleb Martin play on Tatum dirty, bad luck and timing, or a little of both?

Aslo feels like Joe took Tatum out a lot earlier than normal in the first, seemed to coincide directly with a bad possession where he held it for basically the entire clock then jacked up a bad shot. Another tone setting "this isn't what we do" type of move

The league should investigate that Caleb Martin play on Tatum and issue a fine at the very least. Send a message that stuff like this will not be tolerated. That's straight up NOT a basketball play. That was done with intention to injure a player. The fact that the refs let that go and didn't at least call that a flagrant is asinine. The Heat knows they aren't on our level so they have to resort to dirty tactics. Despicable.

Didn't look dirty to me. Jrue even gives him a little push too. I think he was crashing the boards with extra aggression and maybe you could see that wasn't necessary, but didn't look at all that there was intent to injure. Just a desperate play to salvage some type of hope to win.

Jrue did shove martin a little who was crashing hard and it looked more to me like he was going for an aggressive box out and timed it wrong while also being a little out of control from the shove. Now... I will say it wasn't necessary at that time. Game was all but over, snagging a board there doesn't really change anything but the score... but if it was reversed I would love my guys battling to the bitter end so. Lesson learned - don't let go of the rope and force coach to keep you in for the entire fourth when you coulda just handled business and spent the last 4 mins on the bench.

Tatum, I'm more concerned about his neck the way it whipped back. During the 4th I was thinking bad coaching, you can see guys don't want to be out there, take them out, but in the end it could maybe be good to show those guys (yet again...) how quickly it can turn when you don't play with intensity and intention Need to see Tatum and Brown get setup from the post quick down the floor and go right away, the way JB got that dunk on the second play. Waiting for the d to be set leads to what we saw from JB a few times - Miami will let you get downhill and collapse very effectively so you have no choice but to take a tough layup (since fouls aren't going to be called), and even if you make it that's 2, not the kick out for 3...

"You can see the guys don't want to be out there"... and you say BAD COACHING? That's poor effort and bad mentality from players, you can't put that on Joe. Miami made a huge and fast comeback so what you want him to then put in all backups? Cuz... that's the smarter play? No. I disagree. Players need to be smarter and understand the martin play is EXACTLY WHY THEY SHOULD WANT TO PLAY AND SHUT THE DOOR VS PLAYING WITH THEIR FOOD. That was the lesson they should have learned already. Thats on the players 100% and I'm glad they got a reminder.

That was a very dirty game by the heat. This is why i didnt like to face the heat. Hopefully the celtics can sweep them with lots of blowouts so we can mitigate injury risk. 5 things i didnt like: 1. Bam setting that illegal screen on white with no call. 2. Bam trucking JB on a heat break in the 1st half with no call. Like andre drummond running over caruso but worse. Again Bam getting away with dirty plays. 3. Jovic hitting KPs hand so hard on a close out. For the record i dont think this was dirty. I just cringe every time KP gets hurt. 4. Caleb air body blocking JT at the end. If you play ball, you know this was a dirty play. People excusing this are heat fans, celtics haters or dont play ball. That should've been a flagrant. Caleb's another dirty heat player (along with BAM and duncan). 5. Joe not going back to Sam or PP more in the 2nd half when it was clear Jrue didnt have it tonight. Must've been flashbacks to when he got locked last year by the heat when he was with milwaukee. i wouldnt have minded taking away a couple of JTs mins as while JT had an excellent floor game, Sam was on a heater. Playing JT 40+ mins will just burn him out in later rounds. I'd like for him to be kept at 35-36 minutes. Anyway great start and looks like no major injuries. I'd consider coming out of a heat game without major injuries an excellent win. Now lets do it better in game 2 and clean up that 4Q. Beat the heat! Lets go Cs!

It's a miracle JT got up so quickly from that Hard back fall. Thankful, he has been working on building his body. @@nickgilday8946, "the starters blew the lead very quickly", exacly, that's my point! For the reasons I already mentioned, it was poor reading of the game and team management, Joe's responsibility. At the beginning of the 4th quarter the result was 91-59...32+!!! Joe could use the bench at that time, it was good for everybody, the starters (+the rotation players) and the bench players. If the bench blew almost 20 points, as the starters did, the starters were fresh in the final 6/5 minutes off the game. Additionally, it was important to see some of the bench players at this level (playoff game), it could be good information for Joe, in case he needs any of them in the next games...i remember this was the first playoff game, there are many games ahead, there will be close and decisive games that the starters have to play 38/40 minutes, this was not one of them...this is how a team is managed, if it is possible to rest some players in some games, it is desirable. I'm sorry, but I still think that Joe just wasted one of them.

The idea that putting in your bench in a playoff game when the other team is making a run is ridiculous in my opinion. Call a timeout, get your starters act together, and go win the game. I think it was more about the process than the result. Not sure if you are a celtic fan or a heat fan but process over result has been a mantra for the celtics this year... The process of moving the ball, making the right read and pass, not resorting to hero ball and trusting teammates is what was great to see. The big fear coming in to the playoffs was players falling for old habits, especially against heat. Side for a 2 minutes stretch in the fourth, they didn't.
