Pianist Jeremy Siskind explains how to comp on the piano for the Brazilian styles of bossa nova and samba music. He demonstrates the "simple bossa nova" rhythm, how to develop a pattern using all offbeats from the traditional "choro" and how to be inspired by the Partido Alto rhythm.

Absolutely fantastic resource
great lesson one thing I have to add: I should be written and felt in 2 not 4 … either 2/4 or alla breve

I agree with you 100% that it should be felt in 2. Technically, you’re right that in Brazil, the styles are written in 2/4, but in the vast majority of American notation, they are written in 4/4 and most of the musicians, that I know are more comfortable reading these rhythms in 4/4 than in 2/4.
Love it

Awesome, thank you, Antonio!
Is there a list of all the different grooves somewheres? I'm at a loss when it gets to things outside of a swing context.

There really aren't that many "official" grooves that we play in jazz. A lot of swing, bossa nova, samba, and afro-cuban. Then, there are other "generic" straight-eighth grooves based on other latin or pop/rock styles. I don't have a list, but if you work on swing, bossa nova, samba, and afro-cuban, you'll be doing pretty good! (I'm hopefully going to have a guest on the channel in the next month or so who can explain this better than me)
Can you make a lesson on other latin styles such as salsa ( montuno and tumbao), rumba, cha cha cha, mambo, son, etc. This is a subject neglected on youtube. Thanks!

That is not within my area of expertise at all, but I'm hoping to have my friend Alex Brown come on and do some latin jazz stuff before too long.
