I think you're underestimating how a looper helps you practice keeping things in sync with what you've played before. And it really allows for truly creative stuff. Once you grasp using it well enough. Also, I know your comment was probably a bit tongue in cheek, however if it is just about recording what you've played, there are far more logical options out there than using a looper. You really should use a looper to create phrase loops or build up songs in a live situation. Not quite intended as a recorder only.

@@PHeMoX Yeah, I agree. I've been using loopers for many many years, and they've helped me get better timing and often made practicing more fun. But I'm sure you're also no stranger to playing an older loop back and being disgusted by your own sloppy playing ...

Thank you for posting this. So I've been looping for so long though have found myself frustrated with the design of many. The basic Ditto rocks so much in terms of ease of use and playback, but it's limited especially for recording purposes. I've tried other dittos including the "stereo" (which I wasn't a big fan of) as well as the 4X which, after having to send it in for repair to reseat the memory card has been great for my drum machine syncing though is overkill for other things. I also have the older RC-3 which is okay though it doesn't have instant looping (for glitch sounds) - it's also not truly true stereo and while it has drum beats isn't MIDI capable so you can't really program the BPM which was a major letdown. I bought the RC-5 as soon as it came out hoping it'd take the good of the RC3 but with the MIDI though because so much of the volue and other function are in interface form instead of with knobs I've been resistant to use it. Watching this I'm going to give it another try - thank you for all you folks do at Anderton's. When I make my first trip to the UK you WILL be my first stop. :)

Hi everyone! I have an issue with RC-5 & Rc-505. When using the loopers as midi clock slave devices, synced to Maschine software, there are glitches / artefacts all over the place. BOSS recommends to turn Tempo Sync off for each track to avoid those issues, but this led to another issue (tracks start / skip bars / stop randomly). SO that was not a solution. I have contacted BOSS about this, they said they tested it with Ableton and it works fine, but in general their loopers dont like to be slaved. However, no matter how i put the MIDI settings on the looper, nothing helps. Is this also the case with RC-500?

Just saw your demo, and it's great. I've owned and tired a few loop stations... I'm hoping the levels are evened out with this one. Be aware the RC5 isn’t really a replacement for RC3. I bought RC5 expecting to sell my RC3. The RC5 has no Aux-in. But what really upset me is that there is only one dial for ALL functions. There is no way to simply turn up and down drum/backing music. It’s geared for MIDI. So just make sure the functionality is what you want/need otherwise you might get frustrated like adi did and return it. For just basic looper pedal requirements the RC3 is more immediate and flexible. Who wants to have to find a volume control within a menu to set your backing drums/music!?

Hands down he’s a tasty player. No bullshit just thrilling licks and beautiful tone. I only started watching Anderson’s once Chappers buggered off. His demeanour and freeze dried widdle diddle was very off putting. The RC-1 was introduced as a bare bones looper in 2014, and got the 1 because there was an RC-2 and RC-3. The RC-3 has only 10 drum loops but if you press Rhythm on/off and hold you get a) and b) versions of a few of the rhythms. You can’t compare the RC-1 with the 2 or 3 as it’s so simple!

@@chudd7329 The 3 is great but a bit redundant now as the 5 is superior. The 10 drum grooves on the 3 used frustrate the hell out of me after 5 years! I traded my 3 for the 5 but a looper in general is a great way to practice at home. It’s invaluable really.

Guys, you could do all that on the old RC3. Computer storage/recall, backing tracks, drums were ace on the RC3 (with a huge library online). The only selling point I can see is that the sound quality is better.. it needed to be. I will reserve judgment until I have heard a proper multi-track jam..

I Wonder. Not having used the rc3 was the quality bad? Boss is a great company. If this is really a step up in sound quality and does usb, drum tempo auto follows the loop tempo etc then guess I'll get it. Watching many looper videos to decide.

Nice vid fellows. However, all this controlled play in the studio is fine and good, but it completely overlooks the challenges of taking one of these out on a gig, especially at a quiet solo gig, where customers are just a couple of feet away and can hear even the click of your stomp pedals. The challenges of setting the gain on the percussion, starting, stopping the loop, keeping the flow, limiting the number of repeats, going into an unloopable bridge or “B” part (which most real songs actually contain!!!!), are not found in these controlled demo’s. In fact, the opportunity for error in a live gig is so great, you might want to leave your looper at home, even if it has this miraculous 64-bit processing. It can still mess you up bad in a live show.

So just make sure the functionality is what you want/need otherwise you might get frustrated like I did and return it. I’m just keeping my RC3 instead. For just basic looper pedal requirements the RC3 is more immediate and flexible. Who wants to have to find a volume control within a menu to set your backing drums/music while trying to play your guitar!? I just don’t get that.🤷‍♂️

The RC-3 didn't quite need replacement IMHO. Except for maybe the 32-bit recording the new one does. Also, it isn't the difference between 1080p and 4K, but if the final loop is all you use in your DAW for a song, yes you'll notice the difference in quality a lot. I'd say about double the quality is a stretch though. In terms of the frequency range, all your phrases will STILL be fighting for their own space in your loops. No such thing as 'more space' for them actually. It's why using a looper works best if you vary the types of sounds you put in, whether some guitar drumming, some muted rhythm in softer tones and some type of lead or solo. Instead of just chord progressions or notes of the same type of sounds.
