Boss IR-2 Amp & Cabinet Simulator: Quick Playthrough/Demo

Today we’re checking out the all new IR-2 Amp & Cabinet Simulator from Boss Effects. The IR-2 has 11 amp models each paired with an IR from Celestion (there’s also an IR loader software to load your favorites onto the pedal). They cover a wide range of tones from classic tweed & vox style amps up to more modern high gain style sounds. The pedal also has two footswitchable channels that allow you to bounce back and forth between two settings.
The pedal has a three band eq, level, and gain controls as well as an ambience knob which lets you add a touch of room, hall, or plate verb to the mix to liven up your signal.
The IR-2 has stereo outs, an effects loop, and also has a 1/8” headphone jack (which was my best friend during my last couple hotel stays away from home), and a USB-C connector that will let you record sounds into an interface or IOS device, or will also allow you to play along with tracks on your phone.

Yes! I don’t know why Strymon insists on making all of their products the size of bricks. They are very late to downsizing their pedals.

The iridium has room though. This needs a reverb pedal which means it takes up just as much space.

I was thinking you could maybe plug it into a Di box? But shame it doesn’t have all features to just go straight out to whatever you want

You can plug directly into to an audio interface/FOH with usb C I believe.

Would definitely be nice, but the way I see it, most of this pedals competitors are $200 more and still no xlr there so I don’t think they felt the need to cram it in

Thanks, the Guitar is a Frank Brothers Signature. There are no other effects on this one. Just guitar into the IR-2, straight into my interface.
Awesome playing 😯 I assume you just need a power amp and speaker cab? Or does it have some built in power?

No built in power amp, so you’d need that if you wanted to run it into a cabinet. Probably easier to run it directly into a PA in most venues

It's flexible. If it's acting as both your amp/cab, it goes at the end of the chain. And yes, it has an effects loop which supports both mono & stereo.

Typically end of chain, in place of where your amp would be, and yes it does have an effects loop

Yes i believe it is, but you would need to double check the manual to be 100%

Depends on how you want to use it. I don’t think it makes much sense to plug in front of the katana, but its a nice portable option if you want to play elsewhere in the house, or travel with it
