@@blizzbee I ran with a Metal Zone and Compression / Sustainer on my pedal board for years in a metal band, playing a Strat in humbucking mode ("in-between" selector switch position). It was always a handful, but I got the hang of it and it never got away from me. But the best pedal choice I ever made was the NS-2 Noise Suppressor, which I only got after my eight years of glory with The Uninvited. A handful? Not any more! I still get the same mega-gain meaty distortion and sustain - but it's controlled. I dial in the feedback I want, and the NS-2 never lets it run away. It makes pick scratches and pinched harmonics so much more satisfying.

I like that you don't talk for 3 minutes between each pedal demo so the sound of the previous pedal is still fresh in my mind. Too many pedal demos have the guy blabbering on about settings, etc.. so by the time you hear the next pedal you forget what the last one sounded like! Cheers! I used to have a Heavy Metal and I loved it!

Well heres my take on pedals: any pedal is good through the right amp. Ive tried a cheap behringer ultra distortion through a marshall mg n it sounded great. Ive put a cheap daneelectro fab overdrive in front of my dark terror it sounded great. Dont rely too much on youtube videos for tone quest, what matters most is believing in your own ears and what sounds best to you

@@rtomas47 I run the TU-12, NS-2 and CS-2 through the front of the amp., whereas the modulation effects come out of the jacks on the pedal board ( BCB-60) and go through the FX loop on my JCM4212 combo amp. Also the MT-2, because I don't think you've lived until you've overloaded the power amp.

I think it would be easier to compare them if you played 1-2 power chords on each pedal for the first cycle and then a short riff on the next cycle. Decreasing the time to go through all the pedals helps one compare the active pedal with previous pedals. Just sayin, but thanks this was an informative clip about something Ive always been curious about.

I dont understand people that knock these pedals. These pedals are for punk, grunge, hard rock etc etc NOT fucking blues or blues solo's.They are meant to sound how they sound, "undesirable" if you like. That is why Kurt Cobain used one, like alot of player in the 90's hated EVH type lead solo's(i still do)give me noise and mess anyday. Blues players commenting on punk pedals is hilarious. Not everyone wants to hear the 'tonewood' etc etc.t5he idea in the 90's was to destroy that BS and eliminate gear geeks which is now almost the norm unfortunately.

I would like to see if all the pedals sound the same when the equalizer, tone controls are at middle position. That would be a true test of the distortion. Then at the end you can twiddle the knobs, and show how to shape the sound. I like all the boss distortions. The one that I had was the FB-2 Super Distortion and Feedbacker. My neighbor let someone borrow it and I never saw it again.

I was tinkering the Over Drive/Distortion OS-2, or the Power Stack ST-2, before the mandatory Chorus Ensamble CE-5, DD-7 Digital Delay, and RV-6 Reverb. The latter three are no brainer for a dry keyboard like the DX7. But what about the distortion pedal to make the FM synthesizer sound like Jan Hammer guitar-like keyboard solos?

Which one is the more natural/realistic sounding of the 6? I need a pedal to put into the low(clean) channel of my Jcm800 because I can't put my delay pedal in front of my high(distortion) channel. So I can put the delay after the distortion (using a distortion pedal before).

The original Japanese DS1 with the Keeley mod is my fave. The newer Taiwan-made Boss pedals just aren't the same. There's a Chinese company called Daphon who do really good knock-offs of the original Japanese chipsets. My guy at Roland swears by them.

Flex Music I recently got a Daphon Heavy Metal really cheap on ebay. Sounds great! Would you recommend the chorus?

The chorus is very good, it doesn't sound out of tune like a lot of cheapo chorus pedals. If you're looking for analogue, reliable and cheap then yes.
