Tuning the guitar with chorus effect is "next level"

I was using the Roland SDE-3000 during the 1980s. Never played guitar without it. The original ‘always on’ effect!
“the presets start to repeat themselves” - isn’t that what you’d want from a delay pedal? 😂

I literally just came here to say this 😂

I think he meant the presets are all the same because they came stock. When you buy it you'll make your own presets. Thus "the presets repeat themselves" = "the presets are all the same". As opposed to the 24:00 mark where the evh has unique presets based on Van Halen.
I still have the Original Roland SDE-3000 , To me its still a Beautiful sounding machine ,
nothing beats these 80s rack units imo, i hear a noticable difference, probably due to the higher bit rate and upgrades, i just wish they would have a 'failthful' or 'old school' mode added to replicate the old units perfectly

Pete Thorn said they spent weeks A/B ing this thing with the units in EVH’s actual rig and got it to where they couldn’t hear a difference, fwiw. Maybe what you’re hearing is due to the recording or some such 🤷🏻♂️

This thing would be great for keyboards.
Boss Katana amps have an SDE 3000 emulation which really sounds great among a lot of other FX
I adore UI on new boss SDE. It reminds me control panel from Back to the Future. Tbh vintage digital gear ain't that bad if you spend some time. I still use (for home use) line 6 pod XT pro with alesis midiverb4 an bbe sonic maximizer... It is so inspiring and reasonably loud with all-around HiFi. Give old gear a try. It doesn't have to be bad
those 7-segments LED do have nostalgic feeling to it.
Some of the coolest stuff boss has put out in years.
Always sounded great...and still DOES! Good job, Peter!!
i have the very old boss gp-8 and still use it since 30 years now 🙏🎸
The EVH version has a great noise suppressor as well. Good for high gain amps.
Pete Thorn did the EVH version very nice
My friend still has his original one, we used it a lot in the day. Great delay unit.

I became a fan of the SDE-3000 when my favorite guitarist Steve Lukather was raving about them back in the 80’s. I scraped and saved a got one; I play bass. OMG! What a box! NOW they made it into a pedal? 2 @ THAT? EPIC!!! I’m getting one for my bass rig!! The EVH sounds epic as well! R.I.P Eddie! Wish you were down here to be apart of this. The SDE-3000D is the best delay and delay modulation i’ve ever heard. I’m not just saying this since I did buy an SDE-1000 and SDE-2500 back in the 80’s. I’ve played them all and used to manage a music store back in the 80s’.
Do check out "Canadian Pete's" heartfelt deep dive into the EVH version. Yes, Pete Thorn.
My main delay is a Volante, this pedal paired with a nice tape/drum delay would be wild.
Eyes Without A Face. Great start👍
Always love to hear Pete play, but that outro was amazing!

Good job Boss.... I actually prefered the Boss to the original!

Just me, but I always chuckle at the way Pete slips in the "like and subscribe".
Rack units rules🤗 stupid boxes everywhere tend to be bit messy, but a good thing that Roland bring it back 🙏❤️🤗 Love to Captain and Pete.
Does the original rack unit sound warmer than the new pedal, or is it just me?
That outro made me Run Like Hell!

Nope. Early 90s. That way you can enjoy what was 80s, but then you had an explosion of great music from other bands. 1. Jane's Addiction (Ritual) 2. RHCP (BSSM) 3. SMASHING PUMPKINS (GISH) 4. TOOL 5. Faith No More 6. NINE INCH NAILS 7. NIRVANA 8. ALICE IN CHAINS ETC.... ETC... ETC...
The EVH presets are all described in detail in the Boss owner's manual documentation, so you can definitely recreate those on the SDE-3000D without having to buy the EVH version. Basically what the EVH version brings to the table is the unique W/D/W output capability that goes alongside a 4-cable method of connecting to a high-gain amp.

It wasn’t a true fair AB comparison. The pedal and original unit are each connected to entirely different amp models - not exactly the best way to make a comparison.

Maybe it’s because the new unit was connected to a Victory V40 combo (graphic says v140, but that’s a head), which has 6L6 tubes, while the classic original went thru a Victory DP40 with EL34 tubes? Maybe the speakers are also different, not to mention combo vs. cabinet? Too many variables are in play.
New release 's! New pedals!!! OMG !!;;

After just "Fair Warning" Eddie could have "mic drop" retired with nothing more to prove. Savagely talented force of nature he was. "Fair Warning" was his favorite album btw, and mine too.
This would be a nice addition to my Alex lifeson Hentor Sportscaster
There's definetly a significant difference in high frequency content. The pedal has more of it. Not a bad thing.
Love that DeLorean over there
I remember once i was in Andertons and some guy tried to steal a guitar. He made a run for the door with a Squier Jizzmaster under his coat. Lee jumped over the counter and took him out with one swift kick to the head then dragged him to the back of the shop. Never found out what happened to the guy, last thing i remember was him mumbling incoherently in Danish with drool coming out of his mouth.

Does this have The Edge on its competitors.
phase switches are anything but “subtle” when creating specific chorus and flange effects. welcome features that were unobtanium for most of us in the eighties.
How do you set the time to 8d or dotted 8 notes
5:56 There should be a reduced bit mode in the new one. That and the treble attenuation. "Old School" mode.
What guitar is Pete using?
Nice comparing the original on here!
Speaking of bringing back stuff, Are they ever going to bring back DD2 Delay?
Sounds great. But with a Dual digital delay, I feel somewhere Digital John feels left out 😉
I hope rack comes back Cap!
Ol’ Pete seems extra inspired here.
Should be into two JC120's
Very Dark Side, Wallish, or even Momentary lapse, sounding, thru cans? excellent for those of the MaryJ persuasion✌🏼
Well if you were wanting to make a video on how the original was better, mission accomplished. The older one was warmer, fuller, less brittle, and more pleasing to the ear.
On the Vintage Roland SDE-3000 Rack Delay what's the voltage on the back label? Japan uses 100V AC , US Model has 117V AC, so I am guessing the UK/Europe Models use 240V AC or you need a Transformer. #MegaTron #Variac What the difference between the Roland SDE-3000 and SDE-3000A Rack Delay models?

3000A has extra paint for the “A” on the front panel. Otherwise it’s identical to the 3000. i worked for Roland from 87-91 when they released the 3000A, which was really just a reissue of the 3000. Roland Japan just didn’t want to admit it because “we design the future.” It’s really nothing more than that.
Nice.
That guitar looks really nice, what is it?!
is Boss going to do a SRV3000D Reverb as well?
I was about to buy an H90, then I heard this. I bought the EVH instead...not to try to sound like Eddi, but because it didn't suck tone out of the amp like all these other multi-effects pedals do.
I'm going to wait for the Strymon Timeline 2.
I have a feeling that this video once again potentially lowers my bank balance.

That’s because the EVH version takes up that extra space with its EXT loop and added Dry output jack. Because they both share the same foundation, the logical solution was to move the MIDI and USB jacks to the side rather than place the EXT loop on the side of the EVH version.

looks and sounds great, but £600 for the EVH one? seems a bit over priced, I'll wait a year or so for it to come down.
This may be the first use of the expression "bitrate vintage". In 40 years, old heads will be like "I only use that low bitrate OG gear, screw that quantum shit"
More purple tele!

🤤
The original sounds remarkably better on the distorted lead patch. The new one sounds trebly, thin, harsh.
Where's the purple tele?
I've got an old SDE-3000 and it sounded fantastic until it died on me. I do dub and prefer to use a delay on an Aux send on the mixing desk, route the output back to an input on the desk and then send the delay back into itself. The problem is this sounds rubbish with a lot of delays when you mix the internal delay feedback with the feedback from the desk. I suppose it's caused by the latency of the DSP in the unit. I'd love to buy the SDE-3000D, but I suppose I will have this problem with it.
This is interesting. Pretty impressive from watching this and the other videos that all came out today. Still not sure that it lives up to the original. The “EVH” settings come off as a marketing gimmick. I just sold my original SDE-3000 that I owned for 20+ years. Beautiful sounding unit, but that rack was heavy, huge, ran very hot (typical for the SDE-3000s), and was just a PITA to haul around. Plus, at 40 years old, it was bound to break down sooner or later anyway. I currently use the Boss DD-2 which has the same chip that was used in the original SDE-3000, alongside a DD-8, love the groovy reverse in the DD-8. I might give this pedal a test drive though, it might be a better solution....maybe.
The old one really shines when gain is added. The newer version is so bright and just kinda gross sounding. And considering you can get a vintage one for around the same price it is a no brainer. Like at least when korg did this they picked a unit that was very expensive, fairly rare, and spent a lot of time getting the analog side and preamp right. I get it most modern guitars are afraid of rack units. I understand that. But tonally they often just sound better simply because more thought was put into building a decent unit that exist in both the digital and analog realm, and trying to cover up the limits of digital at that point in time. It gives the units a character so few modern devices have.

For a modern example there is Oto, the French company does some absolutely incredible sounding and very very vintage digital effects. Their reverb and delay are incredible (I suspect their filter also is but I haven't tried it). Just they have a weird table top format which seems to scare away a lot of guitarist from using their products (beyond bands like Sunn0))) or Sumac/Old Man Gloom in the studio).
