    I got my favorite Bose noise canceling headphones around 1999. They really canceled. Anyway, got the QC 45s few days ago. I like a heavy bass, but what I really needed them for was watching TV. I have hearing issues, mostly age related. I cannot hear speech very clearly. Closed captioning these days seem to be skipping over a lot of words and parts of sentences. I was using the Bose QC35 on my iPad, but on my new Samsung smart TV, the sound was sometimes a bit spotty. I’ve now been using the QC45 for almost a week and am very pleased. Easy to pair and connect. Speech is clear with no skipping. And if someone else is also watching, I can turn on my sound bar also. I like that I can also use with my iPad and even my phone. Headphones made specifically for TV watching tend to be a one trick pony. These are much more versatile. Overall, very pleased.

    3:09 the Bose ANC steeply dip to around 12 dB at about 100 Hz, which is almost half of the Sony XM4s and almost 3 times less than the AirPods Max. It’s a small gap, but that’s around the frequency range of loud engine noises like lawn mowers and leaf blowers, so that could be a big deal (and potential deal-breaker) for many people, myself included.

    Re _'a pointy bit on my head'_ . After years using headphones I recently noticed something odd too. So I searched and sure enough 'gamer headphone skull dent' is a thing! So I've jerry-rigged my new QC45s to distribute the weight across my skull more evenly. I cut to length a Miniso exercise resistance band and threaded it though the hinges, with the ends held in place with rubber bands. Slung between the hinges like this it acts as a second suspension band for the QC45s.

  • @Sam10X

    Hey Praveen, this will offer the best of what ANC can, which means if the music around you is LOW frequency (low notes) and relatively constant, it will be effectively cancelled out even if it's quite loud; but if the music is HIGH frequency (high notes) and constantly changing, then any ANC headphones will have trouble cancelling that out! Maybe if you can't change where you are, you can try earplugs + ANC headphones? 😁🎧

I will say they are excellent, the Bose app now allows EQ adjustment within a limited range - which I have found allows a little more bass, and makes the sound feel a little deeper. Specially the Sony’s swivel hinge. I like how compact QC45 gets compared to Airpods Max but the robustness of Airpods Max is remarkable. Not sure if you made a decision but I actually have both headphones and here’s why. The AirPods Max, to me, are the Rolls Royce of headphones. I absolutely love them for work, getting things done around the house, even mowing my small lawn. However, I started going for long walks and noticed the ear cups would get wet inside from sweat and would start to smell. For that price, I couldn’t do it. So I went out and bought the QC45. These are way way more lightweight and honestly feel a little cheap in the build quality. But other than that I love them. The ANC is great, but not as good as the airpods. But the portability is unmatched because of how lightweight they are and the way they fold up. I can throw them in my bag for a day of shopping. They’re great for walking as long as I wipe them down after and the battery is much, much MUCH better than the AirPods. If build quality if your top concern, the AirPods Max are literally unmatched. But if you want versatility and to not have to treat your headphones with utmost care, these are a pretty great option.

    Thanks Vincent, I can’t say much about different countries! But if price is the issue, first I would say that the official website probably won’t have the best price, so you’re better off looking for when it goes on sale at a big retailer or even Amazon. In terms of function, it seems like roughly every 2 years there’s an update on their over ear headphones but not necessarily the QC model. If you need a pair, no need to wait for the latest model unless you have to have top of the range, these will do you well, good luck with your decision👌

    Hi Sam ! I watched your review a second time & finally decided to buy it lol. I have read more & it seems the price had never been so low before. They went on a low price due to the release of Anker Q45 that had much more recent hardware, ANC technology & the same 32-bitrate as the Sony XM5. However having tested both Anker Q45 & Sony XM5 in store as you recommended I didn't like their sound at all, they overdid the bass a lot which made the music more muffled overall. I am not saying they are bad though, I think if I hadn't had the Apple AirPods Max nor Bose QC45 on my head before I would have noticed it but testing them back to back like this was immediately noticeable to me. Anyway I am writing too much, hopefully it is a "sound" purchase as it will be my first pair ever as a non audiophile haha

    I'm not trying to make the QCs look worse, but simply judging by the ANC graphs you provided, I'd still argue that the AirPods Max have better overall noice cancelling. (Just to clarify, I don't own either) The AirPods ANC looks to be a bit better in the bass range and much more consistent throughout the mids, whereas the QCs have a massive dip around the higher mids which will probably cause voices to be quite a lot more audible. Though their performance against higher frequency sounds will be better. Just thought I'd add this, because simply looking at which graph reaches the highest point, without paying attention or explaining what that actually means is a very bad idea when comparing something like this. Overall I'd assume the AirPods would probably be audibly better at filtering out both voices and low frequency noises like those of planes or bus engines and such (voices much more prominently, you probably wouldn't really hear a difference with the planes humming for example) . But overall the QCs ANC will still be more than enough for basically anyone.

  • @Sam10X

    @Sam10X

    2 жыл бұрын

    I think you make a great point! Definitely something to keep in mind but also something to balance with the price as AirPods Max is almost twice as expensive so that could be a limiting factor! But ultimately agree that any of these will be more than sufficient for most people 👌
