    I purchased a used one as the piece is a bit pricey, but the machine kzread.infoUgkxG6fbm3cHBd7CNTjk5D-dwYe9c9tCB9ZN has surpassed my expectations. We sand small parts by hand often, sized around 1"x1/2," and specifically look for a piece that's designed to be vertical. The motor has plenty of torque and great speed settings. The only inconvenience I had is that the disk measures 5" where we trim 6" stick-and-sand disks down easily by mounting it then cutting with a box cutter.

    +Lyle Kobberstad I don't have enough varied experience without using a vacuum, but I believe thats a problem with all 'blow-into-cannister/bag' type setups - not enough of the dust is extracted away from the pad so the dust prematurely wears out the velcro.

    Thanks Ariana! I do actually have an Amazon affiliate account for the US, though I didn't when I publishes this video. For the most part I'm one part lazy and one part... cautious. I don't really want to spam the description with links, but at the same time I guess it really isn't.. I guess its more one part lazy with one part anxiety about it eh? What are the other major markets? UK, Germany?

    Paul Jenkins Hi Paul, I can sympathise with your predicament, but given you've invested so much time creating the content, I would consider going back and adding at least your US affiliate to at least your product reviews. If you layout your description well, it shouldn't look too cluttered. You could also use these --------------- or these ************ or these _______ to separate sections, just play around with a template for your description. There's the USA, United Kingdom, and also Canada for the English speakers. The other markets you can decide on are Germany, Austria, France, and Spain. You're good at what you do, your reviews contributed to my purchasing a Mafell MT55CC KIT, my Bosch router, and now orbital sander. It's not spam, it's useful information to help me support good content creation, as a techy who only dabbles with woodwork.

    Hi Paul. I’m looking for sander and like you have quire a few 125mm discs. How is the sander going? How does it go with the 125mm pad? It seems to have been replaced by the 40-150 which doesn’t mention the 125 pad anymore. I assume I could simply by one but just thought I’d ask you about yours first.

  • @TheWoodKnight

    @TheWoodKnight

    A few years back I switched over to the Mirka Deros (well, actually the Metabo SXE-150-BL, but its a Deros rebadged). Before that, the Bosch sander was going great, but the Deros is lighter/quieter/faster/etc. I did have 125mm discs, but mostly gave them away to a friend because the 150mm discs sand a lot faster (~40% more surface area) On the 40-150, yes, should still be the same process of unbolting the pad and applying a smaller one, but you may need to contact Bosch or one of their stockists to order it in, as Bosch parts in Australia can be hard to come by on shelves.

    I've had the GEX 125-150AVE for a couple of years now and can't fault it. I've spent a lot of time using it to sand vertical surfaces (weatherboard house) and while it is a bit on the heavy side my arms soon got used to it. I'm currently in the process of replacing both the 125 and 150 pads but they are proving hard to buy off the shelf in Australia and what I have found is almost a third of the price of the sander. If anyone reads this and knows where to source these pads at a reasonable price please let me know. Great review!

  • @TheWoodKnight

    +Paul Hutchins FWIW the GEX 125-150AVE is the ROS65VC in the US. The backing pads for that are available from Amazon (and ship to Australia!) and should be compatible (not guaranteeing that). Lookup the RS6044, RS6045, RS6046 - those are the 150mm/6" pads. To ship one came to $25AUD (with shipping), which isn't too bad (a little more than a 1/10th the cost of the sander ;)). I'm not sure they have the 8+1 hole pad in the US though.

  • @paul.hutchins

    @paul.hutchins

    +Paul Jenkins Wow that is cheap! I was looking at anywhere from $35-60 here. Thanks for the tip! Do you recommend any particular brands or sanding discs? I usually stick with the Bosch as that's the better brand at Bunnings but happy to explore elsewhere.

  • @TheWoodKnight

    @TheWoodKnight

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Paul Hutchins The other place to look at would be the UK - toolstop, Axminster, etc. The US doesn't seem to have the 6" 8+1 pads, but the UK do. "2 608 601 185" is the part number for that. There is also a third party (DFS, german brand) that appears to make a *35 hole* pad, though its a bit pricier.

    Thank you for the video. What you've failed to do is a test of these sanders to see how they perform after a month or as you can read here for me it didn't take much to keep on changing the head/base of the unit. I thought that Bosch is real Terrible, as an amateur woodworker who is just starting without many tools I've bought unfortunately a Bosch orbital sander that was SO VERY BAD, after about it each time I've had to send about 10' of wood the head stopped holding the sandpaper as you've correctly mentioned, so in the warranty Bosch doesn't cover the head/base and to make a story short after 3 times that I've replaced the head/base I ended up buying a very old used Makita which is so much better and reliable and had no problem with it whatsoever. Maybe in the past, Bosch had good German quality products but now these days I say "FORGET BOSCH AND SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME"! This is my opinion.

    When you say you had to keep changing the "base" of the unit, do you mean the pad? The sanders come with Bosch's soft pad. They also do medium and hard pads for more aggressive removal. The soft pads that come with it are for light and finish sanding. Sounds to me like you were going for aggressive removal with the soft pads. That's user error. I've been using mine professionally for 3 years for everything from high removal to polishing and it's never failed me.

    What the heck is that big Milwaukee sander? They don't sell that in the US as far as i know. All they offer is a battery powered sander and a small cheap sander at the big box stores. I currently have that little Bosch which here in the US it's the ROS20VSC and it's a great sander, especially for the money. Hooked up to a shop vac and using Mirka Autonet or Abranet mesh discs, i have pretty much zero dust escape. The one thing that confused me in this review was how you mention something about it stalling due to its lack of power. Sounds like maybe they castrated the motor on the AU version because i have never had such a problem, even with super grippy autonet sanding discs. And pay no mind to the other posters who asked you to speak slower. I can understand you just fine. It't not even a heavy Aussi accent. But i guess people are always gonna find something to have a whinge about. (see what i did there?) Ha!

  • @TheWoodKnight

    @TheWoodKnight

    The motor in the AU version is fine, its more to do with the amount of suction and porosity of the wood. The milwaukee sander is apparently rebadged as the Rigid R26111, though its at least "relatively" cheap!

And I'll be taking your advice on my first sander purchase this week. I'd like you to be better known, so I too would like it if you could slow down your speech - had to replay some bits a few times. A 100 words/min is perfect to communicate to a wide audience - you're doing twice that. If you're good - and you are - people will happily watch a longer video. Although I'll be the last to tell you how to run your channel, here are two practitioners that I like for the speed of their speech, which gives listeners time to absorb the important things they are saying. My initial reaction is that you mumble and talk too fast, which means I really had to concentrate on what you are saying and less on what you are doing in the video, meaning I got quickly irritated and wanted to look for another reviewer before you even got to the second sander. Great, you have a Makita BO5041, but you just kept comparing and mentioning your Makita BO5041 the whole time. Made me wonder if you are upset that you had to pay for your Makita BO5041. Feels a little like an anti-Makita video. Overall, this video had potential, but it gets a thumbs down since you mumbled and spoke too quickly.

    I can only compare the tools I have in front of me, not theoretical ones I've got no experience with. At the time, I had the Makita, the two Bosch's, and the Milwaukee that I mentioned (and reviewed in a separate video). The Makita cost more than the cheapest Bosch and performed worse - it's hard to be too positive about it :)
