    Best machine in my kitchen. It is a work horse for bread dough. It actually kneads the bread versus the Kitchenaud just spins the dough.

    I purchased my Compact in early December for smaller jobs, I also have a 17 yr old Ank. Very happy with this mixer, I have done everything Amy has done and more in her demos. Bosch introduced this model in the early 80's, still going strong. I was able to get mine on sale for $159. Worth every penny.......

    @@geminil2415 i can tell you as Amy and Eric both said 8n 5his review, it's much quieter than most stand mixers. I'm conscious of having neighbors, i normally don't run any of my sm kitchen appliances really late into the evening in fear a neighbor might be disturbed,BUT i don't worry what time i will run this. I think the only way someone outside my apt would hear it is if they have an ear to my door or wall lol. Although i only ran mine once, i did get a feel for its loudness, i didn't think to use my decibel reader.

    This is the most amazing mixer I have ever used. I was in Europe when I first purchased one. And I was blown away. It does everything that a huge mixer can do, and more. Very efficient and fun to use. I would literally wake up and think, oh boy what can I possibly make today with my mixer. That doesn't happen very often, you know. :) One thing, when your making whipped cream, be mindful and watch, it will quickly go from cream to butter in seconds. But hey, then you have butter for the bread your going to mix up and bake. ;) Once again, so happy with it. Hated to leave it behind when I came back to the States. But happy to see it is available here now.

    Hi Amy, I received the Kitchenaid Mini mixer for Christmas and I have to say I love it! No more getting out my regular size Kitchenaid, or larger lift Kitchenaid mixer, this one makes the perfect size loaf of bread for my husband and I. I didn't know if it could handle bread dough but it made a beautiful, supple dough. I tried all the test you put most mixers through, although it did move around a bit with the bread dough and cookie dough it did accomplish the tasks. It's small enough to leave out on the counter all the time, and since I make fresh bread every Monday this little gem will be getting a lot of use.

    I was amazed at how clean the bowl was as the bread dough was kneading. You didn't have to wash the bowl !! LOL I have very limited counter space in my kitchen and I am not a baker. I think this would be a good addition to my kitchen for small recipes such as cookies, etc. Thanks for reviewing. Was so hoping you would give it a favorable review so I may consider this in the future. Up until now I never thought I'd ever own a stand mixer because of their size.

    I'm cancelling my KA artisan that is on order for this compact. Unique design and well thought out. I laughed at this mixer the few times it came up in my researching but after watching your informative test reviews and reading other's experiences with KA and bosch I've done a complete 180. This will stow away quite nicely and I'm more likely to use it, especially with the slicer/shredder attachment. It's performance on bread doughs looks perfect for my needs- though the KA seems to have the upper hand on whipping/creaming. Thanks, your reviews and tests are very telling. I knew this one would be good cause the video length is short...

    Thank you for this review, it will be very helpful. I used to have an older, heavy-duty Bosch many years ago and really like it. When I saw the compact model, I thought I'd treat myself and I've just unpacked it. Initially, what attracted me to this model was the really reasonable price for a Bosch. The company I was already sold on. Can't wait to get mixing some bread dough!

    Seems to be a very impressive little machine. I was very interested to see this review since I've never really seen this mixer being used, and honestly wasn't expecting much from it, though I figured it would be fine for cake batter, the cream, etc. It really did well and in the case of the bread dough far better than I ever would have imagined. I think it would likely fit the bill very well for someone without a lot of space that wants something nice to use and not so heavy and bulky. Far better than the Sears one to be sure!

    After watching this video, I brought one (for about $70 in europe) a month ago, and I must say, it's very nice for the price. Yes, there are plastic all over the machine, and it feels a little cheap too, but the way it work is very nice. For a standard family, the size are fine. All my doughs so far, has turned out perfectly, even the heavier ones too. And because it's very compact, it goes into the kitchen cupboard after use. 🍕🍞🥨🥞

    I own the Universal Bosch and make a lot bread in it. Plus the dough needs only one rise in the bread pans prior to baking. Also, own a 6 quart Epicurean by KitchenAid that I have to hold onto. It bounces and moves on the counter when kneading dough. Plus doesn't have the power to handle more than one loaf dough. Much prefer the Bosch mixers over KitchenAid. Happy to know Bosch has this smaller version. Thank you, Amy for your continued reviews and great recipes!

At first all it’s little squeaks and groans had me thinking it wouldn’t last, but even maxed out it’s never overheated or had any issues. The splash guard only gets used during pollen season as a dust cover 😂 I’m of the opinion that it does better than most machines with small batches and just as well with medium.

    I have the german, more powerful edition, but that makes no difference. It's really a great mixer! Mine has 19 years now. I'm using it all the time, with a lot of attachments. But try this: when you're making bread, first put the water/liquid and the yeast in the bowl. After that, fill in ALL the rest of the ingredients (as well as ALL flour at once - 750 g max.). Only now you start kneading, at speed one. NEVER use the dowhook at more than speed two. There will be no need to scratch the bowl ! There are no time-restrictions for kneading a dow on this mixer (Kitchen Aid = 10 minutes!. Perhaps, all in all it takes a little bit longer than some other mixers, but the results are great! Half of the german kitchens use exactly this mixer, since nearly 40 years now. (Excuse my pity english)

    In Germany we lovingly call it "the little Bosch" (die kleine Bosch). I tried to find other products like this, I am astounded that there don't appear to be any direct competitors anywhere in the world, and only a handful of comparable products. I didn't think it was such a niche product. To be fair it's very rare in private households in Germany too, for some strange reason - in contrast all the professional small household or teaching kitchens seem to have one for every available working space.

    Hi Amy and Eric, This is the video that brought me to you. After fighting with my Kitchenaid classic mixer for 17 years I have decided to switch to the Bosch compact. I am just so over my Kitchenaid. I cannot stand it. I swear I am the only person in the world who doesn't like a Kitchenaid mixer. It literally makes me not want to bake and I really enjoy baking. My mixer loves to throw out any amount of flour I put in the bowl at the lowest speed. It leaves half my dry ingredients in the bottom of the bowl which forces me to scrape and mix on my own. WHY KITCHENAID WHY????!!! The machine was 200$ in 2002....and honestly for the money it should do the job. The dang thing weighs 26lbs. I'm just over it.....but my distaste for the machine brought me to you. I love watching your videos. You guys are AWESOME!!! I ordered the Bosch.....and it arrives on Monday. I just know it's gonna end the cussing at my KA!!!!

    Is your bowl height correct? Do the "dime test" where you push around a dime (or other thin coin) around the stainless bowl, to verify that the whisk comes very close to the bowl. On the KitchenAid I think there's a screw you turn with a coin to adjust the bowl height. If your attachments aren't mixing the bottom of the bowl maybe there's too big a gap between the attachments and the bottom of the bowl.

    Hi amy hi eric, I'm taking your advice on choosing something i want to learn and mostly stick to it for a year or til i am good at it. So far I've NOT been successful making bread. After baking, it's still wet and heavy, i can't figure out what im doing wrong. I use the bosch small batch for basic white bread. My new bosch compact stand mixer arrived yesterday but from time to time over many years when ever i tried making bread it always comes out the same heavy, wet, not eattable. I had the artisian KA and the original Cuisinart with timer now the bosch compact stand mixer. I thought it was going to work yesterday because I saw it pull away from the sides of the bowl, i let it knead 5 mins on speed 1 or 2, it made a nice a ball and it had some stretch but i dont think as much as you get with "bonga-bada-boong" thingy going hahaha. I split it into 2 loaves, rised it twice in warm spot, first time upwards to 1 hr and second rise about 45 mins. But it didn't rise as much as ive seen on other vids. It baked about 35 mins on 405F and looked and smelled gorgeous but not nice inside due to being wet. No big air pockets. Should I be kneading longer, should i add more flour? It's not gooy or sticking to my hands but it feels a little sticky

But the mixer stays nice and cool throughout heavy kneading, Though I would suggest people to get the ones with SS bowl to avoid any scratches from the dough hook.

    I thought it did a great job on that dough. Seems people are always concerned about it being plastic. There are different grades of plastic and Bosch mixers are supremely well built and can withstand a lot of pressure and they don't discolor either like cheaper plastic appliances.. I've never had a problem whipping one egg white in my Universal.. In fact you should be testing every mixer on its ability to mix ONE egg white,, not two or three.

  • @MrMrpeters74

    @MrMrpeters74

    5 жыл бұрын

    I have the universal, and sure it can whip one egg white... but how often do you do that. It seems like a random test they engineered for so that they can point to it and pretend that it does a good job with small batches. Which it does not. Don't get me wrong, it is AWESOME for double, triple, or even more batches of bread, but I've had to hold on to my KA classic because I will try a single batch of something in the Bosch and it completely fails or just drags the partially mixed clump in circles. Anyway, my point is the one egg white test is nice, but doesn't necessarily predict that a machine is going to be good with small batches. Just taking a machine through a few standard mixing, kneading, and whipping tests like Amy does seems like a good process. You get to see which ones don't mix, have wobbly bits, etc with real world use. I am not too concerned about the flexing I see in the video either. Find me another mixer under $200 that has this kind of horsepower AND no tilt head wobble or just being shit. I'm glad to see how well it does mix, and how well it handles bread. That seems to be a tricky combination with mixers of this size. Whenever my classic kicks the bucket this would probably complement my universal nicely.

    Great video. I was considering this as bread is my favorite bake, but I never make more than 2 loaves at a time. It kneads much better than my KA classic and it also handles small mixing jobs better than the KA. I’m no longer hauling out my hand mixer to whip small amounts of egg whites or cream. I also love that it seems to clean the bowl and doesn’t need as much scraping down as the KA. It’s also easier to add ingredients while the mixer is running. I love this machine.

    The kneading action seems to be better than KA indeed. However, what I will say will sound ridiculous but true for some people: I found out that KA has actually some practical value because of the design: our last mixer was ugly as hell, so it was buried on the cabinet. Lot of times we were lazy and just mixed by hand. Plastic accumulates a lot of grease too. Now the KA is on display on the counter and much more accessible and is used more often.

    I've had my Bosch Compact for a little while now. And I made pound cake today. What I'm not very satisfied with is the creaming of the butter and sugar. When I see videos where people cream their butter/sugar in a Kitchenaid, it is very different and way more efficient. Eventually I got an okey result in the end, but not nearly as good as I see people get with their Kitchenaids (or similar machines). I am sure the problem with the Bosch is that it does not have a proper flat beater. Instead it is this wire thing, which seems to not do as good of a job as a proper flat beater. It takes longer and the creaming is not as airy. I also got problems when mixing in the eggs. Not too good results. In the end I'm really happy with my Bosch Compact, especially since I got it very cheap, but I'm not at all happy with the flat beater. I think I will use the whisk next time for creaming butter and sugar, or just do it by hand. And that is not really why I bought the Bosch Compact for, to make things by hand. I don't understand why they made a flat beater like that. It somewhat works, yes, but it doesn't create necessary volume. And I had to scrape the bowl way too often. If they could make a scraper beater, that would be much better, but not solve the problem of the flat beater being made of wires. Maybe I did something wrong, but I have no idea what that could be. And maybe it would perform much better if I were making a double batch. I used 230 grams of butter, 90 grams of cream cheese and 200 grams of sugar. It did cling to the sides all the time, but got much better when I hold down the head. The movement of the mixer head stopped and the beater could more grab what was always stuck on the sides. But still not enough volume was being created, and it took too long to get to a somewhat okey result. When that's said, I'm really happy with the whisk and the dough hook, they work great. I'm also happy with the compact size of it, the bowl, the level of noise and the ease of operation. If they could make another beater, like the one they have in Bosch Maxximum, for example, I would be very happy with absolutely everything with this machine. If someone know any tricks to get the creaming of the butter and sugar action better, please let me know :-)

    I find that is the case with the Universal Plus as well. I think a planetary mixer does a better job for basic creaming. But...it still works great in the end. Is the Bosch Maxximum the same as the Compact?

  • @r.thomassen6285

    @r.thomassen6285

    @@AmyLearnsToCook We don't have the cookie paddles or the scraper attachment available here for the Universal, only the whisks and the dough hook. I sort of remember I once tried to cream butter and sugar in my Universal. And that was even worse than in the Compact. But I'm not sure if it was butter and sugar or something else. I can just remember something that was both stucked to the sides of the bowl and the center pole, and it did a horrible job. Yes, I also think a planetary is better for creaming, for sure. The Bosch Maxximum is not the Compact. I'm not sure what it is. Two seconds and I will find out. Okey. It is a mixer they don't sell anymore. I have seen videos on KZread, and it looks really great. It is a 1600 watt mixer, all-metal housing and 2 automatic modes for whipping eggwhites and cream. Sort of an exclusive version of the Compact. But it had a scraper beater, as you can see here: www.bosch-home.com/ne/product-list/MUMXX40G One or some other and current Bosch models also have that beater. I can't remember the names of them. From what I have seen on KZread, that scraper beater works better for creaming than the wire beater for the Compact (the scraper beater will not fit on the Compact), but not as efficient as on a machine where the beater is more or less in the middle of the bowl instead of swirling around the sides of it. Well, I want a Kitchenaid, and I for sure want to keep my Compact and most definately keep my ultimate bread miracle, the Universal. I don't need three mixers, four with the Ankarsrum that is put away (and is not really mine either). Hmm, maybe I can test creaming with the roller in the Ankarsrum? Would probably not work for small amounts, I imagine. I can't buy a Kitchenaid just for creaming, that will be too stupid. I will never use it for bread of any kind, I don't need it for whipping anything, really only need it for creaming. No, I like my Compact and it is the only machine I need, as well as the Universal. So I will tweak it in some way. Experiment a little and see what happens. For my next pound cake I will increase the batch size a little, increase the amount of cream cheese and perhaps add an egg yolk to the creaming mixture. That way the amount to be creamed is bigger, and the Compact might do a better job, especially if I increase the whipping time. I absolutely LOVE you channel, by the way. You have so many interesting videos. My favorites are the stand mixer ones. Or well, you had fenomenal hand mixer videos too.

If you don't know what a Kenwood machine is, it have been the most popular brand in my country for decades, and it is similar to a Kitchenaid, more or less. It will do the exact same job.
