@ oz tool talk. I own this grinder, the restart feature means that if the tool is clicked in the on position before it receives power from a cord the tool will not start. For example the tool is put away an the switch gets knocked into the on position, the tool uses loses power for some reason or if you switch it on at the tool and realise your extension cord wasn't switch on at the box, and forget to switch the grinder off again before the power restarts the grinder will not start again even though it is still switched on at the tool. SO the tool will be in the ON position and receiving power but will not run until you switch the tool on and off again. It prevents it restarting when you are away from the tool and switch the power on at the tool or it doesn't surprise the user and jump out of their hand. under normal use it doesn't effect using the tool at all it is just to prevent the tool accidentally starting

Watched yours, and a couple of other KZread videos on this particular model. I was in desperate need of another grinder as my last Blue Bosch, the GWS 14-125 (made in China) had finally worn out and the gearbox packed in after 9 years of hard use. I ordered this one yesterday and, $596.80 later it arrived this morning. I giggled a bit when I saw it was indeed, made in Germany, and I boasted that to my wife, mind you, for the price, you’d think it should be! I had my lunch and started using it in earnest in the afternoon on my log splitter build. I had to cut through a bit of 12mm plate to un pin a small 5 to 10mm weld that I couldn't get to from the underside. I started with a cutting disc and then proceeded to V it out with the grinding disc and by 7.30 tonight (the same day as purchased) I had the thing totally destroyed, with the gearbox stripped out and the motor throwing huge sparks ⚡️ out of the brushes/commutator area 'simultaneously', I freaking nearly dropped the thing with shock! I was pining my hopes on this to be a bastion, now I’m going to have to hire an angle grinder tomorrow to try and finish off as the splitter needs to go out of town to get the hydraulics hooked up on it on Thursday (which is not tomorrow but the next day)! The last (Chinese made) Bosch angle grinder I had lasted nearly 9 years of this sort of work, however, Bosch has let me down this time, I think I’ll go back to Metabo!

@@OZToolTalk Yeah, thanks for your well wishes mate, it is indeed awful. The guy at the store, where I bought it from, told me he said to Bosch, 'why don't you send one down simultaneously with us sending this one back'? And he said that they said 'no, we have to test it first'. I really don't want to see that one back reconditioned or anything, as clearly there must've been a fault with it and I'll always be waiting for it to reemerge, so I hope 'to heaven' they do see me right over it! At $20 a day to hire an angle grinder at the local hire shop, I had to stop by the Mitre 10 store to buy the cheapest 750w 125mm Makita I could find ($145) just to finish off!

Great review. Bosch Professional series grinders are the nicest to use barrel grinders around it's a shame they don't have these particular ones in a rat tail format. I have just retired my GWS 14-125 CE after it was run over. It had daily grinding use for 5 years and for the last 10 wire brush, flap disk and loaner use. (Brushes changed 3 times) The unit you have reviewed would be well suited to someone doing a lot of stainless work as the lower speed and constant speed control would give the grinding discs a chance to cut without overheating them and the grinding discs going blunt. Cheers

Looks like a monster - I'm pretty happy with my Metabo 1250W unit, and while more power is always good, wouldn't want the body to be much fatter, as it gets pretty tough to hang on to for extended periods. Also worth noting, if it's taking in 1900W and delivering 1220W at the disc, it means 680W is being lost as heat - hope the fan is good :) Grinding tip - if you need to remove metal (and make the machine work) you need to start by digging in and then driving forward a rolling burr of metal in front of the disc, rather than skating over the surface.

Gaf I have the metabo 5" 1100 watt unit and this is MUCH nicer to use for long periods. I love my metabo 5" & 9" but the 5" is much larger body. (Mike)

Nice review and nice tool. i kinda hate that Bosch and other big brands don't add another handle hole on the top of the unit, only on sides.

That concrete dust is the worst! Hope you were wearing a dust mask Dwain. Looks like it has a fairly long cord, which is always appreciated in my book. Been a bit busy here in America, have a bit of a nutter running the country right now! Thanks for your video.....

If you try cutting tiles with the teeth facing forward it is way to aggressive and chips the tiles. There is an arrow on the disk which says the direction the disk should rotate xx

I've only used the 720w and 850w for cutting tiles and stone etc.. was wondering if the 1700w or 1500w is worth the money. Or you wouldn't see notice much difference cutting tiles and stone? What are your thoughts
