Borrowed chords are simply chords taken from another scale built on the same root. This might sound like a confusing definition, but I assure you it's as simple as can get! Join me as I break down these ideas with plenty of demonstrations and applications, including a unique synth-funk demo written specifically for the purpose of this lesson.

Im too distracted by how good your composition was (that you recently posted). Serieously, it came together so well. Im a super critical composer too. That was something special. A quintessential example of triumphant, energetic jrpg battle music - with just the right ammount of 80's. You should feel proud, even if your views on it remain criminally underrepresented forever. Thats just KZread being KZread.

Thanks! Don't worry about views, I don't post them for views, it's more of a tool for "getting stuff out" and off my plate. Keeps me motivated.

Very interesting and sounds wonderful. But then how do you write down the correct key for the label? I mean, when publishing on a label you have to specify the key of the musical composition. By the last and first chords?

  • @MangoldProject

Finding the key of a song is more about finding the "center of gravity". First and last chords are important, but so are the majority of other chords and the chord the progressions want to "resolve" to.

Isn't the parallel scale something else? For C major A minor is a parallel scale. It's just a matter of terminology... By the way, I regularly follow your channel and all praise for your work!

Parallel scales share the same root note - e.g. C major and C minor are parallel scales. Relative scales share the same notes but have a different root note - e.g. C major and A minor are relative scales.

I checked, here, in Europe, Serbia, in music theory, we call parallel scales what in English are relative. !
