Saya sebagai anak Kalimantan baru pertama kali melihat banteng Borneo?! semoga lestaari terus Amiinn.

Binatang ini menarik perhatian dan sangat unik. Warna putih seperti sarung kaki di bahagian bawah kaki dan yang di bahagian punggung tu seolah olah di warna khas untuk binatang ini. (Iconic) Sepatutnya binatang ini dikategorikan sebagai binatang dilindungi sebelum spesis ini pupus diburu manusia.

Secara genetik Banteng Borneo lebih dekat dengan Gaur (Bos gaurus) berbanding dengan subspesies banteng lain, setelah berpisah dari Gaur sekitar 5 juta tahun yang lalu.

The scientific name of the gaur is actually Bibos gaurus.

@cezao93, that is an outdated classification, the Bos genus is polyphyletic, the gaur, banteng, and kouprey are all removed from the Bos genus the same is also said for the yak, the gaur, banteng, kouprey all now belong to the genus Bibos whereas the yak is the sole extant species in the genus Poephagus, thus changing the scientific names of the gaur, banteng, kouprey, and yak to Bibos gaurus, Bibos javanicus, Bibos sauveli, and Poephagus grunniens respectively, thus restricting the Bos genus only to the aurochsen with only two extant species: the Paleotropical Aurochs (Bos namadicus (cladistically including the Zebu (Bos namadicus indicus) and Sanga (Bos namadicus africanus))) and the Palearctic Aurochs (Bos primigenius (cladistically including the Taurine Ox (Bos primigenius taurus) and Mandarin Ox (Bos primigenius mandarinus))), as far as told, both genera Bibos and Poephagus are not closely related to aurochsen (genus Bos) at all, the latter is widely accepted to be more closely related to the bison (genus Bison) while the former is widely accepted to be the most basal and distantly related from all the other extant genera of true cattle (subtribe Bovina).

Those are not Seladang/Gaur (Bos Gaurus) but Tembadau/Banteng (Bos javanicus)

@Wyvern of He Fei, you are both incorrect and out of date, the correct scientific names of the gaur and banteng are Bibos gaurus and Bibos javanicus respectively, they now belong to the genus Bibos alongside the kouprey (Bibos sauveli).

@@tigerkingdom9624: the bigger gaurs scientific name is bos gaurus, with bigger back hump but without the white rump and with almost uniform black bluish color. the banteng is bos javanicus, slightly smaller, less shoulder hump, variable color from the common tan/brown to very dark black bluish color of the gaurs but always with the white rumps

Genetic study shows that the Bornean banteng is closer to the gaur (Bos gaurus) than it is to other banteng subspecies, having diverged from the gaur around 5 million years ago.

@Mhdfrb99, actually, all the banteng subspecies are more closely related to each other than any of them are to the gaur, both actually now belong to the genus Bibos, which also contains the kouprey, the scientific names of the gaur, banteng, and kouprey are now Bibos gaurus, Bibos javanicus, and Bibos sauveli respectively, there is also a fossil representative scientifically named Bibos palaeosondaicus, the Bibos genus is the most basal extant genus of the subtribe Bovina (True Cattle).

Banteng memang haiwan Borneo .. Di Sabah Malaysia Banteng dikenal sebagai tembadau..terdapat 3 spesis banteng yang ada dipulau Jawa bos javanicus javanicus,di Sabah Malaysia bos javanicus lovi,di indochia(Vietnam,burma,Thailand)bos javanicus birmanicus.

@A. Hâm, actually, there are four subspecies of banteng, the Burmese Banteng (Bibos javanicus birmanicus), the Bornean Banteng (Bibos javanicus lowi), the Javan Banteng (Bibos javanicus javanicus), and the Bali Cattle (Bibos javanicus domesticus).
