BORNEO 🇲🇾 2 Weeks in Sabah | Sepilok, Turtle Island, Kinabatangan, Mt Kinabalu

I spent 2 weeks travelling around Sabah in Borneo, encountering incredible wildlife in the jungles, beaches and blue sea.
This was a bespoke tour I hosted with Intrepid Travel.
After spending a couple of nights in Kuala Lumpur, we arrived in Kota Kinabalu and prepared for the hike up to Mt Kinabalu summit.
Following this we saw the turtles laying their eggs on Selingan Turtle Island; visited the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre; spent 2 nights at the Sukau Rainforest lodge in Kinabatangan; visited the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary; and did a night walk in the Rainforest Discovery Centre.
At the end of the trip I stayed on Gaya Island and managed to see whale sharks in the bay.

I went to a similar trip in Borneo few years ago. Is a tear dropping trip in many parts of the trip. Observing mother turtle laying the eggs, say goodbye to baby turtle. Spot orang utan and the super cute sun bear. Unlike Africa wildlife trip, wildlife in Borneo make you connecting to the nature in a peaceful way.

It's the kind of adventure that leaves you breathless and questioning your life choices, but the view from the top is so jaw-dropping, you'll momentarily forget the burning in your calves. I visited Borneo in the past and I immediately realized that in Borneo, 'safari' doesn't mean just 'watching'; it means 'playing peekaboo with the wild ones.' And if you manage to spot all five, you're officially the David Attenborough of your group!

This video came up randomly and was well worth the view. Reminded me of my visit there coming from Saigon where me... a native New Yorker was working for a British company to attend a regional conference. We stopped firstly in KL then Brunei where at sunset the sky was absolutely crimson. Finally making it to the conference center about 8PM my wife and I decided to have dinner in our room. At about 9:30 my wife went for a shower and I turned on the news to a shock. It was the evening of September 11, 2001 there and so 9:30 AM or so in New York. What I saw made me think the doomsday clock had just struck midnight with the world trade center burning on one side of the TV screen and the Pentagon burning on the other. For a moment I was thinking that I may be living the rest of my life in Borneo. Anyway... we could see the mountain the next day but did not have time to climb it.

Just got back from Sabah on this last Wednesday. Did a similar trip but not exactly the same. Some very familiar sights. Enjoyed your movie and think it does a pretty good job of showing what it is like except you didnt show the endless Palm Oil plantations outside of the reserve areas. I was a bit disappointed and slightly surprised that so much of Sabah had been planted. We didn't see an orangutan on the river either, but did see two gibbons. We didn't see the elephants, so you are lucky and I'm extremely envious. A cloud leopard would have been the most epic. But no, we were not that lucky. Thanks for your work.

U took the trail that was mainly steps up to the peak of Mount Kinabalu. I can understand the mind numbing plodding since it was the same way up and down the mountain. The one i did started from mesilau and i remember it being more naturail trail. So it felt more like a hike than just climbing stairs. Still, applaud u guys for summitting. Also, thank you for this wonderful video documenting your trip. I teared up several times. Beauty of nature kinda does that...😂 And you did a great job conveying it through your lens and storytelling P/s. Just saw the ending and wow. I didn't know whale sharks swam to our shores! That must have been so memorable

Absolutely amazing filming and editing as always. Looks like everyone had an absolute blast. I gotta say, I must be the odd one, because I find hiking down anything, 10 times easier than hiking up. I know you'll want to quickly say "but you were not there" and you're right.... but I've climbed Half Dome at Yosemite in a day. 16 or so miles in total, with a 1,600 meter increase in elevation and then back down. I think I left my car at like 6am, hit the top at 3-4pm, spent an hour up there, and then basically jogged down in like 3 hours. If I recall, the pizza cafe closed at 9pm and that was my single goal, to get there in time for a pizza. Same with the Schilthorn too. I cheated and took the cable car up and easily hiked back to Gimmelwald with ease. The thought of climb up there... no thanks. God bless cable cars!
