When I feel forgotten and hopeless Lord let your water of life comfort me. Even though I fell on hard times these pass three years. I’m holding on and keeping faith even though it’s hard. Faith is our armor against the enemy. I keep faith even as I constantly struggle to provide for my children and I constantly struggle to buy groceries. My husband died years ago. At times I feel so alone especially as a single mom. Since suffering a heart attack two years ago and my on going battle with lupus I’m overwhelmed and discouraged. Both of my sons are autistic but because of you Lord they are thriving. I’m now homeschooling them so my hours to work are limited. I’m afraid Lord. Afraid of homelessness. Thankfully I have you Lord! I know you will continue to provide you have this far. I LOVE YOU HEAVENLY FATHER.

Praise the Lord for His amazing grace! My life was turned upside down (or as my friend corrected it “right side up” when I was saved 9 years ago. The transformation was immediate and remarkable. I was so joyful and hungry to know more about the Lord through His Word and sermons. The peace I experienced transcends understanding. Sharing of my new found “light” was my mission. What is one to do when they have been a Christian under the Grace of Jesus' sacrifice for their redemption to God and YET, have NEVER experienced this radical transformation in their own lives that CANNOT be done by anything of their own, and yet is only given to them by God. How does one interpret God's rejection in this manner for I need this gift from God so desperately, and yet hearing this leaves me with such a sense of despair and sadness. I do not know what to do. For surely I have been praying for this very transformational experience from God for a long time and yet I am still left in this place of such emptiness.

I like Alistair Begg and there is so much to learn from that sermon. However when it is delivered against the backdrop of limited atonement much of the joy is removed from it. When Jesus speaks about the renewal of all things (Matthew 19), the recapitulation of the cosmos, surely he includes all those he created. Now that is Good News, believe the Gospel.

It appears that you are taking things out of context. Allistair in no way believes that "Christ died for the sins of the elect alone, and no atonement was provided for the reprobate". I've listened to Pastor Begg for years, and have never gotten a hint of limited atonement from his teachings.

Thanks for taking time to respond, I admit that I always understood that Pastor Begg held a reformed Calvinistic stance but I could be wrong. I have listened to a number of his sermons and he seems to come from that position but I will continue to listen and reflect on what he teaches. God bless you.

I don't understand why we do not trust the scriptures. When Jesus says "water and spirit," he is not saying "spirit and spirit." There is no reason to equivocation here. If we believe baptism is a work of man, Jesus would ask, "John's baptism, was it from heaven or from men?" It is crystal clear from Colossians 2 that baptism is by Christ with the power of God and not human hands!! "In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature,* not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead."

You cannot see the Kingdom of God unless you are born again of water and the Spirit. Then Peter said it. Repent and be babtized and receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts chapter 2.Paul said Galatians 3 verses 26 and 27. Paul states the same in Romans chapter 6. 1Peterchapter 3 verses 20 and 21 in order to have a good conscience toward God. Chapter 8 of Acts "Here is water what does hinder me from being babtized. Acts 2 verses 38 to 42 babtized and 3000 God added 3000 souls to His Church. Jesus said Matthew ch 16 verses 15 and 16 "I will build My Church" This guy is not preaching the Gospel. He is a wolf in sheep's clothing. The Word condemns the message!

Water represents natural birth, and born again represents a spiritual birth; our spiritual birth is when we receive our resurrection bodies and will be transformed into eternal beings (John 3:8). Water baptism is a public confession but still of the flesh (John 3:6; 1 Peter 3:21). You must believe, in your heart, to be born again (John1:12).@@tomraines6427

You are gravely mistaken. If that be the case, the thief on the cross did not go to paradise with Jesus bc he was not baptised. And why would Christ submit to torture & murder if sin could be washed with water baptism? These verses speak of being born of water (as in born into this world as a baby) and the spiritial birth we experience when we accept The Gospel of Christ. May we all be willing to change our beliefs when we read clear scripture that challenges our understanding. At the end of the day, it doesnt matter what you or I or a famous preacher believes, it only matters what God Almighty has decreed as Truth.

The thief was told what he was told by Christ before His resurrection and ascension to the Father. One in our current age cannot apply what the thief was told during his age. We in our age need to give heed to what Jesus told His disciples and most importantly, His Apostles, as a final commandment before His ascension to the Father. We can see how the Apostles carried out Jesus' commandment all throughout the book of Acts. @@nccrchurchunusual7990

The thief on the cross was under the old covenant so water baptism wasn't part of the plan of salvation. Repentance followed by water baptism is for the renission of sins( Acts 2:38). Salvation isn't just about escaping hell and goung to heaven its about being born again. Just as physical birth is the end result of a process so is spiritual rebirth. Spiritual rebirth ,in order to be born of the Spirit, requires the cleansing of the temple of our body with the blood of Christ through water baptism. This is the antitype of the old covenants cleansing of the temple to prepare it for the Spirit of God to inhabit it. During water baptism the Holy Spirit circumcuses our conscience, removing the guilt from past sins, and restoring it to its original childlike innocence from the consequences from wilful sin, which is guilt. This is the " washing of regeneration" of Tirus 3:5. The word " regeneration" defined means to reyurn sinething to its original state. The original state of our conscience is that of a childs'. The word " recieve" in the new testaments original Greek means " to take hold of". This requires action on our part not to somehow earn the free gift of salvation but to recieve the free gift. After water baptism we must then " recieve" the Holy Spirit by fervent prayer. Once the Lord answers our prayer and fills us we must then surrender our tongue to the Spirit so that when we have recieved the Spirit He may scripturally confirm it. This is the only sign given in scripture that a believer has recieved the Holy Spirit when they recieved( Acts ch 2,10,and ch.19).

The ESV version says God "caused" other versions say that because of his mercy he gave us new life

When did apostles get born again? Were they born again when they walked with Jesus?

Of one apostle's experience, we are told in Acts how it happened. That is the experience of the Apostle Paul. The experience of the others is also given to us but we cannot expect to have the same experience because theirs was after the cross but before His ascension to the Father. It reads in the gospel accounts, John's in particular, that Jesus breathed on them and declared, "Receive the Holy Spirit."

At Pentecost. Acts chapter 2. Peter was made new (as everyone born AGAIN is: 2 Corinthians 5:17). He was no longer the cowardly Peter who was afraid of saying he knew Jesus. Now (as we see in Acts) he was so bold that he stood up to preach to thousands without blinking.

The key of being born again is in the distinction between religion and being indwelt by the spirit of God. It is not the pagan who must be born again, but the religious.

Oh no. It is a changed bible.

Born again is the ressurrection of our soul , which was dead , due to Adam’s fall . However , if we decide to believed God again , and renew commitments and trust. In Him alone , we live ! Salvation is two-way , God’s Will and our Obedience . This is the only work required . Our effort to be approved of Him , is defiant and useless .

I have learned so much from Alistair Begg. He’s a great teacher in my view. I know that regeneration is brought about by the Holy Spirit, the power of God. But I cannot separate water baptism from the conversion/rebirth process just as the Ethiopian eunuch was baptized in water and then went on his way rejoicing. Certainly the passage says that the Holy Spirit was present and so was Philip who God worked through. All was accomplished by the power of God. It’s such a simple act of obedience that we “be” baptized as Acts 2:38 says rather than as some say “get baptized”. I’d rather not reduce its importance by saying it’s by the hand of man. I am immersed into Christ by the grace of God.

Why cant Christians see it? The problem that Jesus came to address was the loss of mans relationship with God. That we must be born of water primarily says that to be able to be born again you must first be human.

WHEN Jesus says to Nicodemus "You MUST be born again" that implies some action on the part of Nicodemus, but that is impossible as only God alone can give birth from above. How can this word MUST be explained? Thank you.

To be "born again " means to be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins. Acts 2:38 "Peter replied, repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. " Also, Mark 16:15,16 "He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. " Belief is not enough, you must follow through with baptism.

It is [necessary] to be born again IN THE SPIRIT to obtain eternal life, go to the heaven of the Bible. Being born in the flesh is only half way. How? Make the effort to search, ask Qs, understand, prioritize our eternity. When we humble ourselves before His throne & accept Jesus as King of Kings, Lord of our lives. The ACTION is to ACCEPT His free gift. Paid in full. This is not to be confused with us EARNING it. (I agree with you. We don’t have the ability to ever work for it, even if we were to live 5 million years.) We merely make the EFFORT to accept & appreciate it. So yes we are “doing” but this mustn’t be confused with contributing to the debt of sin, only the believing in faith in the eternity we are promised. Sealed with His Spirit 🙏🏻 Hope that helps. Good to fully process in our world of hard work. Totally mind boggling paradigm shift🙏🏻

Sadly, the Jesus movement did just what Alistair said, but over time, as charismania became rampant, they besmirched that blessed experience and brought it into disrepute, which made many not want to be born again. Its up to the sound, balanced few like Alistair, to restore its truth. Ps. I was an original Jesus person, a free living hippy, and in one night was born again. People said, if it cpuld happen to him, it could happen to anyone;

The verses listed in the topic are a conversation between a jew and jesus. Where is this explained to a gentile? Why did jesus go on to call a gentile woman a dog? And why did he tell the 12 apostles to not go to gentiles?

Question: “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again” (John 3:7). Is what Jesus said to Nicodemus only meant for literal Israel? …YE must be born from above… (YE).

As you say born again is regenerated and sanctified, and unless we are regenerated and have our own righteousness we shall have no grace, our faith must be of good works. Our good works must be attributed to the Holy Spirit, BUT we must show evidence of good works to prove faith, our will must overcome temptation guided by the Holy Spirit.

Why born agains dont go all the way to the jordan river for actual baptism???

Where geographically and even by whom is not important. Even the act itself is not important if it is done without faith in what God is doing at the time of baptism.

When we sin the first time at a young age, our spirit is separated from God and we are dead in sin. When we are born again, the Lord quickens our spirit to life by His Spirit...we are thus born of the Spirit. We are born again and are new creatures in Christ.

And God from Heaven spoke "This is My beloved Son" and at His Ressurection He told His Apostles Mathew 28 verses 18 thru 20. And at Pentecost Peter preached Repent and be babtized and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Do what the Bible Jesus says and live. Jesus says Mark 16 verses 16, Matthew 28 verses 18 thru 20. Galatians ch 3 verses 26 and 27. 1st Peter Ch 3 verses 20 and 21. Follow the WORD and not man saying different. In Christian Love. Amen

What did Jesus disciples have to do to be saved? Follow and imitate Jesus. It is not nothing like Alistair said.

You can't believe in a hell where people are tormented forever and be born again. The belief in hell will weigh you down. It will depress you. Being born again means being enlightened. It means being joyful, creative, loving, playful. Hell and being born again are mutually exclusive.

It was a conversation between Jesus and nicodemus not to the masses Jesus said to the masses Except ye repent ye will perish! Repentance and faith is what the preacher should be preaching Leave the saving to God!

I was saved and born again in 1961. God took me to hell in 1959. Very few people have a clue what I'm saying.

everyone seems to assume satan is going to be horrid. if i go to hell then GOD is "punishing me" for my sins, but why would satan want to punish me too? satan hates christians. if i'm being punished by satan, then satan is doing god's work - that makes zero sense. hell is more likely to be eternity having more fun than you ever could on earth, this is what god hates, heaven will just be eternal worship, satan is SAVING you from an eternity of boredom and slavery. i see no reason why hell wouldn't be a great place to be, no mind control, no ten commandments to follow, just eternal life that you can probably quit if you get bored with learning guitar from hendrix or trying to grasp relativity from einstein. why would hell be undesirable? why would satan want to torment me - he hates god and christians, not sinners.

Try "Begotten from above" (correct) when Jesus speaks... Nicodemus says "born again" because he doesn't understand Jesus Christ words. If you follow reason, it is the only way it makes sense. Besides that check your Greek interlinear reference. Also read Intro to the New Testament by Raymond Brown. God Bless you, may you preach the Truth from here on.

The NEW Birth happened in Acts 2-------but Begg doesn't teach this correctly. In Acts 2 they repented, were baptized in Jesus' name and they received the Holy GhOST SPEAKING IN tongues JUST LIKE THE apostles

Born "from above" NOT born again..

The serpent in the wilderness (John 3:14) was only lifted up for Israel… for God “so” loved… those people (JN 3:16).

This speaker seems to not understand the text. The new birth is accomplished by baptism into Christ and then one is added to his Church, the Kingdom of God. The spiritual Kingdom Jesus spoke of is entered into by obedience to the plan of salvation laid out in scripture. Why people go to such lengths to deny what the Bible teaches is beyond understanding. Don’t just take this guys word on such an important issue as salvation of your soul. Study they bible so you can know what Gods will is for mankind. Many today teach the doctrines of man and pass it off as coming from God. Read Matthew 15:9 and also Matthew 7:21. The standard is God’s word, nothing else. I want people to be born again. However, to teach things as just believing and praying for forgiveness in not how one is born again. Scripture does not agree with that view. The book of Acts gives 9 conversion examples and tells us about the establishment of the Church. I came from a baptist background and was amazed once I studied and found out what I believed was error.

Bible says 'born again' is baptism.

No such thing learn your bible kjv and strongs concordace and go back to original texts. It's born from above meaing you must be born of a woman to have any chance of redemption that's why the Lord was birn of a woman to redeem those born of a woman it's God's plan. When I came to the part where you referred to Ezekiel 36:25 I said "Yes go there". Then you did what all reformed preachers do, you gave it a dismissive treatment and left it. THE EZEKIEL PASSAGE IS WHAT JESUS WAS REFERRING TO WHEN HE CHIDED NICODEMUS FOR BEING THE TEACHER IN ISRAEL AND NOT KNOWING THE NEW BIRTH. Alistair shame on you. Shame on you for fearing the baptism issue contained in Ezekiel. Jesus said water and spirit! Well what can be expected of a reformed preacher who has not been baptized in the Holy Spirit! "Truly truly I say to you unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood you have no life in you" Protestants are missing out on the greatest miracle Jesus gave to us. Not just bread and wine. They become His Flesh and Blood on the altar through the hands of a priest only. Pastors dont have that ability

Priests are heresy. Man doesnt need man to speak to God. Yeshua tore the veil in the temple upon His death to signify He is the last sacrifice to repair the bridge between us and the Father.
