My question is, how does this work I. Solid rock formations? Limestone, sandstone, and shales? I've tried seismic before with no avail. I see how this works with sand and gravel aquifers, but Im pessimistic as to its success in hard ro know formations

All techniques have their limits. Although VES is the most used siting technique. VES can tell you if there is a massive hard layer, not where a crack is. That is why the tutorial starts with "we don't exactly know what is down there until we have been there. But there are some techniques, like VES that can help us make a calculated assumption.
