I Agree 100%! I've always said that the song I'm Every Woman by Chaka Khan should have been given to Aretha when it first came out, cause she definitely was every woman. Throughout the years of her life she had the look of every woman and also the voice. Even though Aretha's voice changed over the years due to being a heavy smoker until she stopped, if you really think about it she also had the voice and SOUND of every female singer. From the beginning of her career in the early 60's till her passing. No matter what style of music and race, White, Black, Latin or anything else you can hear just about every female singers voice in Aretha's vocal changes over the years. I guarantee you no one can say that about any other female singer from any style of music or generation. That's why I like to say Aretha was the head of it all, and still is.

@@akuapiatas Actually, for years she didn't do interviews at all. She was very hurt by the Time Magazine feature in 1968 -- she felt it portrayed her in a patronizing, stereotyping way , and she felt betrayed -- and it led to a deep distrust of the media that lasted for a long time.

C-SuiteConnections, that is exactly what I have been thinking for a long time. That she knew how much we all loved her. There are not many entertainers, singers etc that you just feel that they are giving everything they can to you. When I bought an Aretha Franklin album, I knew it was money well spent. She has helped so many people in other ways with her time, talent and money that most will never know about. God Bless her!

Aretha doesn't interview much, so what a rare opportunity to see this in-depth chat. She is so humble despite having received almost every imaginable accolade a person could attain. It's because of that VOICE. That rare gift from GOD that has touched so many hearts and souls around the world. Like she said, Never become a star. If some other talents had heeded these wise words, maybe they would still be here with us. So, Rest in Peace Great Aretha. Sing in The Heavenly Choir. Much Love, Gwen.

She was on stage being interviewed, when she interrupted the guy and said excuse me a minute, she left the stage to grab a cigarette! For someone who only ever existed in the music world her entire life, Ms. Franklin was wonderfully-eloquent in the way she expressed her feelings. I can see she was a lover of language, and had the sharp mind of a good attorney. Always thought before she spoke, very intently. And out came this poetry and brilliance. She would have made a phenomenal judge or ambassador. And just like every genius, she didn’t suffer fools who came with nonsense. This reporter did everything right, so he got a marvelous and informative audience with her. She senses when they’re not prepared, and this gentleman was ready and then some. Kudos.

About the "got tough" part of your comment. Have you seen any of the pics or video of Aretha when she first entered the studio at Muscle Shoals? Here was this young black lady walking into a room full of more experienced white musicians. Not necessarily racist but they sure weren't going to let this young "upstart" show them anything. When she first walked in she had this look that just commanded respect. And by the time she left that studio, she owned every single one of them. She had their respect, all of them, both as a person and as a musician. I don't know if it was "tough" but she had a charisma about her that made some respect her and others love her. I think they knew not to mess with Aretha early on.

Aside from the Blue Brothers, I wish Aretha would've done more acting like a gritty drama or a comedy. She was very funny and had good comedic timing. In addition, I'm sure she could've played a very serious drama role. What a gifted individual! I will miss her always.
I'm glad she knew how loved she was. RIP Queen of Soul . . .

I know right?! She was so real. You should check out her interview on some British/European television show, when her career first took off. She was on stage being interviewed, when she interrupted the guy and said excuse me a minute, she left the stage to grab a cigarette! She needed to calm her nerves, the interviewer didn't know what to make of it, but just continued the interview when she returned puffing away on her ciggie.

Epic interview! Love you Aretha!
Kudos.
Miss you so much Queen!

The host voice is excellent! This interview reminds me of a time when journalism was studied and taking seriously. My generation dropped the ball. Now it's almost a list art. I appreciate every aspect of this production. This is probably the uncut version but I love it! I learned a lot about the Queen. Excellent questions. Thank you Aretha for sharing your life. R.I.P
Every person has been touched by her singing whether they know it or not...all modern singing comes from her
I love that she never blushes when recieving compliments. she accepts them graciously and graciously and politely thank the complimenter, without stwich or a blink, I love that about her, after all she is the Queen isnt she.

Aretha knew who she was. Like her humility and honesty. She was of course very talented. Aretha was the real thing. Very practical person. I like her directness but yet she was humble. She earned her title: Queen of Soul. Although Aretha always struggled with weight, she was a very attractive person. She was a women of Faith which shows in her countenance. Thank you Aretha for the Love. She really was a sweet lady but no push over.
I love this interview; the questions so on point. She is the one and only Queen of Soul! This interviewer did an amazing job. Larry Franlkin, his voice is so smooth on the Voice of America and he's in awe of her and been so gracious with her. Thanks for this interview. Marvelous.
I am so sorry that I never got a chance to meet this great woman. I was only 12 when I first heard her sing. My mom had a 45 with the song "Today I Sing The Blues" and the B-Side, "Won't Be Long". The volume wasn't turned up very high, but Queen Aretha's voice resonated all through our two-story home. Aretha will never be forgotten. WOW! The choir in heaven must have had a special robe waiting just for her.
