A working member of the Collie breed, the Border Collie is often considered the most intelligent dog on the planet. These dogs are highly energetic and need one hour of exercise daily. Border Collies are medium-sized dogs with a moderate amount of coat, which is often thick and sheds frequently. Their coat needs to be brushed three times a week. Most commonly white and black, they come in many colours. Eye colour varies from brown to blue, and occasionally eyes of differing colours occur. The natural life span of the Border Collie is between 10 and 17 years, with an average lifespan of 15 years. Training is very essential to keep them active and athletic. They can also perform amazing tricks, if well trained. They are kid-friendly too. However, a bored Border Collie could be troublesome. Ideally, a robust dog; they may suffer health issues of the hips and eyes. Brain, beauty and personality, this dog has it all.
Bondi Vet covers all important aspects related to pet care. It provides crucial vet advice for different health issues related to pets, gives tutorials on how to train your pets from basic-to-advanced levels, and also provides comprehensive information about specific dog breeds and their habitats.

@Veronica Felix for what do you want dog? Border collie is best if you like sport a lot, and you have a lot of time, they also are so intelligent. Golden have less energy than Border I think, and I know that it's good dog for family with children, Border collie not really. Retrievers also like unknown ppl more than Border collie do :) that's all I know haha. Try search information about them and what for what do you want dog :) I'll get BC in a month, maybe I can write later what is good and what not imo :D

I saw a documentary where a border collie had been trained to drive a tractor on a farm. It could plough an entire field unassisted. Now that's useful.

border collies are awesome! I have a 6 year old female one, she's really not that high energy, but she loves hikes, she's a very loving dog, which i was kind of surprised since I've never had a rescue dog before.

Jak Conrad love it. I wanted to name my first female B.C. T'Ami ( pronounced like Tommy), but she didn't like it, wouldn't even respond to the name. I tried other Vulcan names, even Saavik. No go. I told this wee 6 week old she was a mess. She wagged her tail and even more when I said"Tess, you're a mess". Named Tess. Next pup, I tried again. A mere wag, but my family didn't like it. All like Gypsy Rose Lee better. Next B.C. will be T'Ami whether the dog or family likes it or not. Must have pointed brows. Tri-coloured too. A male B.C. will be Hamish, a red, after Wm.Wallace's friend.

Jak Conrad I wanted to name my first full-bred female BC pup T'Ami-like a female Vulcan name-but my new girl wouldn't respond. When I tried "Tess, you're a mess", she wagged her little tail."Mess?" A look and I guessed again."Tess?" More wags. Ended up naming her Tess Siobhan. Owner/vet said she needed a middle name as it was a popular name and he had a horse named Tess too. "She's gotta like her name". She lived 16 years and her son, JackBNimble, lived 15 yrs., 8 mos. Gypsy didn't like the Vulcan name either, but Gypsy was easier to name. She's 14 and r/w.

Best dog ever. I'm very biased when it comes to border collies. One of the first we had I love to bits. Still miss her sometimes. One day I started noticing a change in her behaviour before noticing some blood. I told my parents at first they said it was probably nothing but I was convinced there was something wrong. In the end I managed to convince my parents and they took her to the vets. It's what I feared. They had diagnosed her with cancer and I was devastated. I was stroking her one day and I found a lump on her stomach. I hoped it wasn't cancer but when the vets said it was I was in pieces. She ended up having to be put down and my mum told me to be strong and make like everything was alright. But I just felt like bursting into tears. I was giving her some treats and giving her a cuddle and although I was trying to be strong for her I just couldn't hold back the tears. It makes me sad even now. They are just the best dogs.

I would not recommend a border collie unless you have minimally a large back yard. They get very destructive if they don't have a lot of room to run around. They also need a lot of exercise so if you are not very active I do not recommend them. I had one and she was the best dog ever but it suited me because I wanted to stay active - 4 hours a day of running, walking and playing and she could have kept going. HAHA.

Does anybody know if Border Collies make good service dogs, particularly for PTSD and Agoraphobia? They're the perfect size, and their high intelligence suggests to me that they would be perfect at reading silent indicators of stress, but their hyperactivity has me second guessing.

they are typically not used as seeing-eye-dogs because they are very high energy and can be spooked by loud noises. Like the video says they are EXTREMELY high energy. If your PTSD or agoraphobia prevent you from being able to give this dog regular outlets for its energy you will end up with a very bored and potentially troublesome dog. If you need a calm companion you should look into golden retrievers or maybe even standard poodles. This link might help: www.psychdogpartners.org/resources/getting-a-dog/choosing-the-right-dog

my border collie gets along with every dog she's ever met. Each dog has its own personality. If you are diligent about socializing your dog at a very young age (2-6 months) with as many different dogs, people (strangers), children, sounds, weird objects (skateboards, bikes, cars, trucks, garbage cans, elevators, etc.) then they won't be afraid of any of them and won't show any aggression, especially due to fear.
