    It was Sacha Baron Cohen himself who was waiting on standby to jump in immediately if Giuliani started to go at all into wrong territory. That's why he jumped in when he did instead of letting it play further. He was very protective of the actress.

    Since I live in Oklahoma, I know all about Jeansie Jones' story since she lives in OKC (the babysitter of the daughter). I remember a story about her on my local news during the time of this movie's release. She was so loved during the movie that people started a crowdfunding campaign and they raised $100,000 dollars for her. Sacha Baron Cohen heard about her troubles and called her to donate another $100,000 dollars. She used it to help get her community back in shape. This was around the time we got hit by a big ice storm and other things. She used it for community members, a church and more. Finna just mean "I'm going to" or "I'm fixing to" "I'm about to"

    Sacha spent 5 days with Jerry and Jim out in that forest hut. They are not actors and were not in on the joke at all, Sacha stayed in character for their entire time together. In fact, he stayed in character for most of the recording, which took nearly a year. The only time he publically broke character was to go back to the synagogue right after filming to let Judith know it was all a joke and explained the film to her. This was brought up later in a lawsuit against the film crew by Judith's family, who wanted to sue them for defamation after Judith passed away.

    Debutante balls used to be super common in the South. Less so these days. "A debutante ball, sometimes called a coming-out party, is a formal ball that includes presenting debutantes (aka rich kids) as adults entering society." So yeah, creepy.

  • @target844

    @target844

    Жыл бұрын

    The debutant ball was set up by the production team. They claimed that they were filming a coming-of-age story and had asked locals to participate in the shoot as extras. The extras were paid $100 per person to dress up and attend the ball So it is a setup that looks like a real debutant ball and the reaction and interaction we see with the people is in all likelihood not scripted but genuine reactions. The majority of the interaction with real people had to be set up and the crew said they were filming something else. There is simply no way to get the cameras in there and film it like this. That way they also got releases of people and could show their faces. The scene with Mike Pence a CPAC, when Borat sang, street shots, etc could be done with though telling the people they made a movie because that is a situation where it is not uncommon for there to be a camera. That is also why they blur some faces. I think the idea is the situation can be set up and it is the real reaction of the people there to outrageous statements and situations that they what to capture.

It was only one time in the whole subsequent movie when Sasha Baron Cohen broke his character and talked to this lady as Sasha. His grandmother also was a Holocaust survivor. This lady - Judith Dim Evans - she was born in Germany and was only one family member to survive the Holocaust. She joined Israel resistance in 1946, and she found her husband there. She also was the youngest school principal in Israel. And she died months before the film was released.

    He actually did break character with the woman in the synagogue. He changed out of his costume and makeup, immediately went back to the synagogue, and explained the movie he was making. Because he felt so bad being anti-Semitic to these nice old ladies.

    Also, regarding "finna": Many features of African-American dialects derive from African languages, many of which have more verb tenses than English does. This shortening of "fixing to" marks a "near future" tense. Other unfamiliar tenses include "habitual", indicating by a single verb that someone does something regularly, or "in a state of", replacing "I am" followed by an adjective with a verb instead.

    The actress wasnt in anything major before the movie, Sacha Baron Cohen wanted someone with little coverage so there was less chance of her being recognised. I think shes from Bulgaria, so like Borat speak in hebrew, she speaks in her nayive tongue. I dont know if shes been in anything major since then

    Finna is a southern thing. They are actually saying "fixing to". But, it comes out as "fittin ta" or "finna". It means, "I'm getting ready to..........". Used in a sentence: I'm finna whoop yo ass!

    "Finna" is a contraction of "Fixing to", just like "Gonna" is "Going to", and means broadly the same thing. It's often used in threatening sentiments, for example "I'm finna punch you in the face".

    The two queue-anonymous dudes are 100% real. There's two follow up web miniseries to this movie, one of which is called Debunking Borat and has them meeting with experts and debunking each of their claims from the film with evidence. However each attempt to do so is a failure as they continue to believe in their conspiracies.

    Ah, you guys never fail to brighten up the week! Especially with your reactions to the Justin Trudeau moment 😂 The first Borat was amazing for the sheer shock value (you never forget your first time watching it!), whereas this one loses some of its impact because of our familiarity with the original… but it gains a lot because the satire is so much more pointed and immediately topical, and Tutar is amazing! Also yes, I was sad that Azamat didn’t return, even though his, um, cameo was wow 😆
