PASSING OF A LEGEND The great, beautiful soul that was Nanci Griffith has flown into the eternal. I fell in love with her when I first saw this video back in 1987. I loved the fragile grace of her voice. I have loved her music ever since. Like many artists, I didn't share her political views (she was very left wing), but she was passionate and articulate with her beliefs. I have no problem with someone's political views (right or left) if they ground them in philosophy, ethics and faith. She was incensed at those who would take advantage of others -- regardless of the reason. She was sometimes filled with righteous anger and still her grace and love for her fellow man bled through in her face and in her words. Rest in peace Ms. Griffith. your music, your spirit will be missed. And yes, there IS a light beyond these woods Ms. Griffith.

Nanci Griffith has been keeping me sane since...forever. In chemotherapy a quarter century ago, her music lulled me to sleep every night (on a disc-man--remember those?) in the hospital. When I got home, as the months of chemo ground on, preparing to go to her concert (at Wolf Trap, Virginia) kept me moving ahead. And I went to that concert. I was so thankful to be there (with my boyfriend -- he is my husband now), that I sat in my seat, and wept. Tears of gratitude and joy. Thanks for posting--this is one of my very favorites.

It's the very same as " Girl from the North Country" only latter is played a bit faster..Viva Dylan!....it would be great to hear what Dylan thinks of her interpretation. But something tells me he ain't sayin'....I love much of his lyrics and instrumental work, but that privacy stuff seems like a " man of mystery " affectation. ( I hate that term " cover" what the hell does that mean anyway?" No offence to you..it seems its just a word not quite as true as " interpretation, " ) Ciao Paolo

something about Nanci s voice that sounds so immature and childish, pure and beautiful at the same time. Love some of her music.

The muisc world and the world in general lost a little piece of its soul when Nanci passed. She was a gentle voice in a world of too many bombastic or narcissist individuals. Yes, she will be missed. "And acquired taste"? Perhaps, but once you have embarced it, it haunts you and comforts you. . .Rest in Peace, gentle songbird.

I'm 37, so I'm still part of a generation that appreciates real music. Though this artist was way before my time, I was fortunate enough to be introduced to her while I was flipping through the channels and I ended up on a local PBS type channel broadcasted to Brooklyn New York. The channel had a similar look to channel 13's broadcast. The name of the show was, "Music City Roots!" I believe they were playing out of Nashville Tennessee that night at a cafe / bar / Club called the Loveless Cafe. If you have a moment, Google the show on KZread and you will see tons and tons of artists you are most likely not familiar with. The music leans towards indie-country and indie Bluegrass and a traditional sound as well. Many artist sounds a little bit like Alison Krauss, but each one has their own definitive and unique look. I have absolutely fallen in love with her songs! I'm so glad I stumbled upon her you older guys we're fortunate enough to experience the real deal music era. I only caught it on the tail end and I enjoyed it! Have a great day and please comment if you've seen the show, #musiccityroots . Her other grade song is called, on the radio! The only version of it though that I like from her is the one that is on Music City Roots but of course that is subjective so please check all variations out. Have a great day. Dave.

Sublime. The whole production of this perfectly summed up as ‘less is more’. Perfectly measured genius if Gerry Douglas and simple shadow of percussion and a wisp of accordian allowing the delightful uniqueness of Nancy….aaah sooooo endlessly endless beauty.. I’m a 76 yr old Aussie…
