Boots Better Than Blundstone?

Are Blundstones actually good boots? Everyone has them, but are they actually worth your money and the premium pricetag? The other Australian favorites are Redback Boots and Rossi Boots, but are they my favorite boots?

    Blundstone LAST! So glad more people are calling them out for not being Australian made. Their overseas marketing is so aggressive and would have you believe they're still made in Australia. Wore through my only ever pair in about 3 months. straight through the sole! Elastic sides gone in about 6 months.

    Well done mate, so cool to see someone finally give Rossi's a mention in the State's ,their my favourite and you have the Endura model too their stronger soles than the other ones, you can get lots of varieties in Rossi's and their softer PU soles are like runners, but I liked the durability of the Endura,the ones you have here, no hydrolysis problems and I had a pair 25 years ago and they lasted for 5 years,working as brick labourer and wore them everywhere else, the others are good boots too,I've owned them all, but Rossi's look cool and feel great,Thanks for your real! Blundstone used to be the go too when they were still made in Tasmania Australia. They used better leather, a harder rubber sole, they were a slightly slimer profile and lasted for years. I’m currently testing out the newer ones with the vibran sole. And I have been extremely surprised with them. Currently walking and hiking through europe for a month in then. The grip is really surprising. It feels like glue. I’m not even kidding. I stepped on a rocky area today and it felt like I Velcro’d my foot to it. The leather is wearing in pretty well so on, but I will say I’d prefer thicker leather and it being fully leather lined from heel to toe, instead of using that felted material for the toe area. I’ll share what I learn and experience with them along the way. I know I need to get back to making more videos to give you all information.

    The sizing is a bit confusing. I usually wear Blundstones size 10 UK which are a bit too roomy in length and width, but still acceptable. I also tried once Blundstones size 9.5 UK which are fine in length, narrow but acceptable in width and too tight in foot instep. The problem is that Blundstone size 10 UK is recommended for 280mm foot length (more or less my foot) while Redback recommendation is size 9.5 UK for 280mm foot length. I wonder which Redback size should I choose.

  • @morecoolshtlessbullsht

    @morecoolshtlessbullsht

    Жыл бұрын

    That does sound a bit hard to choose. What sort of socks do you typically wear when using those boots? I do know sometimes a tight instep is okay, but the most important things are to make sure the ball of your foot aligns where it should within the shoe. If you have plenty of room to wiggle your toes as well. I guess the best example I can give you is that I usually allow for about an inch / thumb's width from the tip of my big toe while I'm standing to the edge of the shoe. This way I know my foot fits the shoe properly and when my foot swells from walking / being on my feet / taking a flight / the heat / eating too much salt / any other reason that the boot / shoe will accommodate the difference. It also allows me to wear a thicker sock if needed though that may be a bit snug. I do know specifically that both my Blundstone is 9.5 AUS and the Redback (black slip on) is 9 AUS. The Redback did stretch out over time to be just fine. The Brown Redback I think has a tighter toebox though than the Black Slip on Redback. All that being said a 10 will be longer in the foot than the 9.5 would be. So It'll depend on how your foot feels in the 10 Blundstone vs the 9.5 Blundstone. One thing you could do if possible. Go try on a pair of 9.5 Blundstones again or even take the insole out of it and just stand on the insoles of your 10 and the 9.5 to see how much of a difference that is in the length and space for your toes. Also make sure the try the 9.5 when you've been on your feet for a while so you can account for swelling. If the boot is painfully tight or even makes your foot feel like it's going numb or anything, I'd say the 10 would be the size to get. Honestly while you're at it, try a brand new pair of 10s and see that versus the 9.5, maybe you stretched the 10s out a bit when you got them. Let me know if any of that helped you. The last thing I want is for you to get the wrong-sized boot. I've done that a few times and it's a waste of money and not too great for your feet or body.

  • @marcinsobierajski5774

    @marcinsobierajski5774

    Many thanks for your detailed advice. I am able to wear Blundstones UK 9.5 only with thin socks, even after long break-in period. They are too snug in instep, because these boots are seamed in that part and the leather cannot strech. UK 10 is a bit to loose. The sweet spot would be somewhere in between. I will try Redbacks UK 9.5 as they are probably comparable with Blundstones UK 10. I prefer boots slightly too loose rather than too tight. I can always adjust with thicker insoles or socks.

I've slopped on all kinds of winter goop including petroleum-based preservatives (which the manufacturer recommends against) and nothing adversely affected the leather. I often wonder if it's really leather and not some kind of Unobtanium. The other amazing feature is how they attach the upper to the sole so it will never ever come apart. The footbeds make a huge difference in boot performance as the boots themselves are basically just a shell, so it pays to try out a few. Also quality socks. I use JB Field Hiker GX, a thick Australian Merino wool sock. Not only do they cushion your soles but their bulk adds ankle support. As for leather treatment, all I use on my new 550s is Blundstone's Renovating Cream. I work the cream in with my fingers which infuses skin oil for a like-new finish. One trick I found is to occasionally spritz the entire boot with a 10 to 2 mix of water and white vinegar. My old pair ended up pretty stinky in their last days but the vinegar solution keeps the newbies fresh as they came out of the box.

    That's a tough call. I may say the redback would, because I will literally kick things to move them and they haven't shown a sign of wearing down, the chunky sole of them is really comfortable, it absorbs a ton of shock, so if you're doing something on your feet all day and don't mind how industrial they look, then they are a hell of a pair of boots. What would you be using them for?

    They are both pretty water-resistant. I've done a lot more walking around with my bluestones so I can more accurately say they are very resistant. But you can add a waxy paste to them to make them pretty waterproof. I've done that to mine recently and the water just rolls off.

    I would say the redback is the best for a mechanic. The squishy outsole and built-in arch support will be something you'll love. Especially since you'll be on your feet all day on hard surfaces. The leather can handle just about anything you throw at it and look fine after. The Easy Escape from redback would be the pair I'd recommend the most, I've used them a lot when working on my motorcycle. Quite a few chain stores carry the boot if you want to try them in person. Otherwise, you can buy them directly from the redback site here: www.redbackboots.com/product/1

    Yeah that simple looking sole on the Blundstone does make them fit in about anywhere. They have that sorta "Levi's" effect where anyone and everyone could wear them and no one will think less of you, but will probably have a story to tell you. It's happened to me a few times. It's rare to have a pair of boots get that sort of treatment.

    I beg to differ, but my Redbacks are built like a tank, and certainly more comfortable right out of the box and going forward than either of the three pair of Blundstones I used to have. My Redbacks are more durable, both soles and uppers, than the Blundstones I used to wear. I am going to get a second pair of Redbacks, and on the strength of the review here a pair of Rossis for a more dressy look. I will add that the Redback soles are much better on snow and ice than the Blundstones. Also, right out of the box the Redbacks were incredibly comfortable, and needed very little, if any, breaking in.

    I would suggest using extreme caution before purchasing Blundstone boots. I purchased the 1469’s last week (01/04/24) and when they arrived this week. The left boot was larger than the right boot. I sent in a help request (because there is no phone number on their website, that I can find) with a video proving the left boot was larger than the right (too big for me) and have heard nothing. I have been a long time Blundstone customer, own several pair of Blundstones and admit they are comfortable (if you have a correct fit) but if it has come to this style of poor customer service I will not be purchasing or recommending any more Blundstone boots. It is a disgrace that one has to pay so much for a pair of boots and cannot speak or communicate with anyone from Blundstone when their product is a fail. Buyer be aware!!
