A high gain external antenna is a great way to improve the performance of a cellular trail camera. A better antenna system provides more reliable picture and video uploads because of a more stable network connection. It also saves power to do what a cellcam does by doing it more efficiently. Generally, people only run "booster" type antennas when they struggle with a signal, in which case investing in batteries would provide you no benefit. I never run AA batteries. All my cams are on external power, which I have been the industry leader in for many years. But better batteries do not help signal, so sometimes it takes both. Hope you have a productive season. Should have the same connection as the other Spypoints. RP-SMA

Sma refers to the connector. Yes the connector on this camera is an SMA
