Boost UHF Range with 2.4ghz Relay / Repeater for Long Range FPV Control

#UHF #Relay #FPV
In this video i show my way of setting up a 2.4ghz receiver as a relay / repeater to transmit rc radio signal to any UHF transmitter to extend or boost UHF signal transmission and reception for long range fpv.
Can easily be implemented on most UHF devices like DragonLink, TBS Crossfire, MFD Rlink, Ezuhf and etc as long as they support a ppm or sbus signal input.
Using this method can help you distance yourself from UHF module and also avoid accidental touches to wires which could result in loss of signal.
Therefore allowing you to control your model from a safe and easy positing without having to place yourself outside as long as your 2.4ghz radio and receiver are in range.

    another option is to use better antennas on the transmitter, i added rp-sma socket to the case and use better antennas (and if needed i can connect a "wifibooster" there and have up to 4w on 2.4 ghz) ... also small 2.4g boosters (with 2w) available for the receiver (model) end and they are bi-directional (means rx and tx is improved a lot!!) so even if you stay on 2.4g (and do not use a uhf repeater) there are ways for make it more long range (or better penetrating concrete)

  • @RakishRc

    Hi, I am not familiar with DSM protocol as I've never used it but you can always setup a relay no matter what protocol or frequency you are using as long as the rx tx involved in setting up the repeater accept and output the desired protocol (in your case DSMX). Can you provide some information about your tx rx and band

    @@AlbaJets okay got it. So then you'll need to use a receiver that can output ppm signal to the MFD transmitter module so as it accepts the ppm signal coming from your Jr Radio and that's basically it. All you need is a receiver that outputs ppm signal coming from your Jr radio 👍

    The claimed range from manufacturer is 50km but I doubt that because I haven't tested it that far. On ground I've got about 750 meters to 1km. So on air it should give more..my guess is it should do 10-15km easily. Thanks 👍

    In case of Futaba, which has Sbus system, how does the connections change between Futaba receiver and Mfdlink ? Should i simply connect the receiver Sbus port to Mfd link without any futher setting in Mfd ? Thank you

    @@CP-zi3eg Mfd can only accept ppm input do you will have to use ppm protocol on your radio and receiver. So plug the ppm port only from your receiver to the mfd link transmitter rc port 1 making sure the pin out is in correct order according to your receiver. If you want Sbus then there is a converter for that but I haven't used it so can't suggest

    How much latency increase after using this method??

  • @RakishRc

    @RakishRc

    7 ай бұрын

    Latency is not noticeable actually. It's as if there is no latency in the system especially when using for RC car. However if the distance between the receiver and radio is more then it will affect the latency on the uhf tx rx transmission.
