"I Don´t Like Mondays" are great, but this song and the whole album The Long Grass is my personal favorite from Boomtown Rats/Bob Geldof!

The original song - with its original intent - was, is and will always be a better song. Why? Primarily because it was written with honesty and soul; not as a replacement due to corporate pressures.

@shampoo cell - The original track was 'Dave' and had a different video. there's a few words changed and the video changes. I'm not sure why, but 'Dave' was a big flop, maybe it didn't fit into any categories, being a sentimental song from one man to another, so maybe it was a commercial decision. 'Dave' is a piece of history because Geldof was promoting it when he saw the famine news item and started work on Band Aid.

Their record label thought the subject matter of suicide was too much for American listeners so the band had to rewrite the lyrics.

That story has to be bullshit about the censorship. The censors had no problem with the flamboyant elton john releasing Daniel or Goodbye Yellow Brick Road a song clearly refrerencing a "boy toy".
