Great list - I am glad you focused on books set in America

Omg I read Before We Were Yours. Holy crow-very emotional. Wowww!

Love your vids and how your reviews don't spoil the read! One of the best Historical Fiction novels I've read and the one that got me hooked on the genre to begin with is The Killer Angel's by Michael Shaara (not Jeff). It revolves around the Battle of Gettysburg and is simply spectacular. Even someone without Civil War knowledge will be able to easily follow and understand.

I am reading 11/22/63 right now, not that far in and I am loving it. I don't want to put it down.

Fun fact: I'm currently reading 11/22/63; I'm about 200 pages from the end. It is unputdownable. It was fun to see you recommend it too, though I had to fast forward through that part. Does he? Doesn't he? --- I didn't want to find out until I read it. (sneaking in reading at work... shhhh)

I read it a few years ago and absolutely unputdownable! I had a Kindle version also and felt like I was flying through the pages. Considering it’s length, that surprised me. Every now and then a big book that might be intimidating in physical form becomes a fast read on kindle because it is so good.

I just read The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray. The book was good, the authors notes afterwards made me cry! ❤️📚❤️

Thanks for the recommendations Sarah. I am a nonfiction reader but when I do read fiction, it is historical fiction. I have wanted to read My Dear Hamilton. It looks good. North and South is one of my all-time favorites. You will love the other two in the trilogy. Jakes does a fabulous job intertwining history into his stories. You should try The Kent Family Chronicles (8 vol.). Thank you for all of the recommendations.

The Kent Family Chronicles are SO good! I read them when I was a teen, at home recovering from surgery. They are so interesting, and will really keep you engaged in the stories.

@@sharonforbes162 I agree. I read them while in college. I was taking my first early American History class and the first couple of books went right with the class material. It was so much fun! They are some of my all-time favorite books.

Great selection of books, Sarah. Historical fiction is my favorite genre and I appreciate you recommending books in that genre other than WWII, as I’m weary of that era. 11/22/63 is amazing and I plan to reread that as well.

My friend stayed there (Borden House) with her husband and had some creepy stories from their stay!!

I just recieved my copy of North and South in the mail earlier, and can't wait to get started with it! (Actually, I HAVE already read the first few pages!) I love John Jakes' books, I remember watching the North and South mini series on tv when I was younger. ..Patrick Swayze made a swoon worthy Orry Main!!! This was a fun, interesting topic!

I liked The Blue and the Gray by John Leekley or Leeky, I think. It is a good Civil War story as told by a young man who is a newspaper artist sent to sketch the events. I also loved the John Jakes series The Kent Chronicles that begin with a Frenchman who becomes an immigrant to the British colonies in America a the time right before the Declaration of Independence. I forget how far the series goes, but I know it extends through at least the Civil War, all the while following the descendants of this French-American.

I had to DNF North and south. I like booklist Thursday’s 😀

Laura Kaomla is married to a friend from high school. Great family. Those authors also wrote America’s First Daughter and Ribbons of Scarlet. Laura is currently writing another historical fiction by herself.

Thank you for the recommendations. The John Jakes books were made into a miniseries in the 80's. For whatever reason I have never been a fan of civil war anything. However that Steven King seems very promising. Laura Kamiore also has another hf about Jefferson's daughter

Your children may enjoy Battleship Cove in Fall River. My nephew really liked it. I’m currently reading One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus. It’s about Mary Dodd who went to live and intermarry with the Cheyenne Indians in 1875. Just started it today.

11/22/63 is MY FAVORITE BOOK!! I loved it so much! I also read it on my kindle and I definitely want to re-read it! I really want to read North and South as well. Are you going to continue with the series?

Great list. I’ve never been to the Lizzie Borden house, but a friend went last fall and has talked a lot about it. They even have actual crime scene photos there of the actual victims. That story has always fascinated me. I really want to read North and South. I remember when the miniseries was all the rage in the 80’s.

I've been all about the historical fiction in the last couple of years. I've acquired quite a bit of it, and recently I've been trying to gather some American-based stories. The Orphan Collector by Ellen Marie Wiseman was an excellent story. Spanish flu epidemic in Philidelphia. There's also Gone with the Wind, of course, for Civil War-era reading. I have a number of Hamilton books that I'm eager to get to. I just recently picked up My Dear Hamilton. The Ringmaster's Wife is a Ringling Brothers circus book from the early 1900s that I think you would enjoy. 11/22/63 is on my list to read, at some point. ;)

Before We Were Yours was a difficult subject matter, but a good read. I found myself researching this after I read the book.

I never heard See What I Have Done. I will check it out.

I am late to “booktube,” so everyone may know these American historic fiction books, but I recommend Radium Girls, Killers of the Flower Moon, Grandma Gatewood’s Walk, The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek, and all of the books by Fiona Davis.

I've just added Before We Were Yours to my "buy" list. See What I Have Done is a good book. It's claustrophic and I was right with the characters as I read that book. I'd like a good nonfiction too. My brother had the opportunity to go to the Borden house, but kept getting lost and never did get there. Cane River by Lalita Tademy is a good book for Louisiana history. Another good local history book is Food and Everyday Life on Kentucky Family Farms, 1920-1950

I'm scared to read 'North and South' it looks so intimidating. I saw the movie adaptation way back in the day and loved it. I have 'My Dear Hamilton' although I have not read it yet. I started reading historical fiction book 'America's First Daughter' last year. It's about Thomas Jefferson. I also have 'The Hamilton Affair'. I can't wait to start reading that one. It looks really good. Does 'Gone With the Wind' fall into historical fiction category. I have that book as well. I bought it last year hoping that I would get around to it this year but never did.

11-22-63 My favorite Steven King! Try Ivan Doig's Montana trilogy. MM Kay's The Far Pavillions--EPIC! Would like to read the Jake's trilogy.

For a Lovecraftian take on Lizzie Borden, I recommend Maplecroft by Cherie Priest.

The Stephen King book is tickling my interest. And, let me mention, in the context of American historical fiction, realizing I am being annoying and repetitive at once: "The Nix" !! ;P Fantastic book.

If you go to the Lizzie Borden house, you should also check out the historical society on Rock Street because they have a lot of artifacts about Lizzie, although I don't know if you can access it due to Covid.

I bought a non fiction about Lizzie Borden. It’s called the Trials of Lizzie Borden. I have not read it yet though.

The secret wife of Aaron Burr was really good as well:)

I am pretty sure my friend's grandma was a Georgia Tan baby.
