This book has the hallmarks of romance books that romance readers love: a gorgeous and super kind love interest, an amazing setting, past heartbreak, an over-the-top sidekick who pushes along the romance, a real-figure girl with real girl struggles, a little ex drama, an appropriately protective guy, and everything that makes a romance perfectly romantic. I think romance readers would love this book.
I loved the Christian aspects. They were incorporated realistically; the characters sounded like real people who also really cared about Jesus. Also they added depth to the romance. For me, romance books usually feel shallow, but the Christian aspects created a sense that the level of value and respect in the love was deep and real. The love felt like love, not just lust.
The plot was thought-out and interesting. It had past and present problems that kept me engaged.
The audiobook narration wasn’t great. The prose portion sounded very similar to a computer generated voice, but the dialogue was expressive and unique to each character. I always knew when each character was speaking.
Overall: If you like romance, you’ll love this. If you don’t like romance but want to support clean and/or Christian fiction, follow the author and tell your romance-reading friends about Tawni Suchy’s books.
