    May I just say this is the best video out there. I created 2 books with a lot of trial and error. It was definitely a learning curb with a lot of tears involved. This tutorial is so seamless and so eloquently put together. What a beautiful soul of a man! I would like to send my kind regards and a virtual hug. Thank you for creating such precise content. 🌻🫶🏼

    I just found your channel, and your information is very helpful. I've almost finished my first book, an 8.5 x 11 calendar/planner/address book, etc. I tried printing the individual pages to check them over, but the margins came out way too wide. I checked and rechecked everything, but can't figure out what's wrong. I'm beginning to think it's just some kind of disconnect with my printer. Could you give me an idea please? And thank you!

  • @StevePeel

    @StevePeel

    More than likely it’s down to your printer. However, the best way to look at the images is inside a PDF, as those pages print as they look. How does it look when you go through the Print Preview during the upload process on KDP? If you haven’t got that far, I’d suggest trying that, even if you only have a couple of pages done and the rest are blank.

    Hi Steve, Do you have to allow for the gutter when you align your double-spread background picture on pages 1 and 2. i:e with an 8.625 x 8.75 the gutter on page 1 to the right side of the page would be 0.375" and the gutter on page 2 to the left side of the page would be 0.375" as well. This is for a page count of 24 to 250. So would the alignment in the middle between page 1 and page 2 have to allow for the gutters so the middle is the left side of the gutter on page 1 and the right side of the gutter on page 2? I hope this makes sense. Thank you for producing a great series of videos they are invaluable.

  • @StevePeel

    Regardless, you lose a little all around when pages are trimmed at the print stage, but it fails to make a difference to how a double-page spread looks in print. As long as you align both pages so that they are touching and ignore how deep the gutter margin is, everything will be just fine. That 0.375 will be mostly your image in the gutter, it's not that it will be cut off or trimmed back like that. Only a small fraction of the page is stuck in the binder. Always keep must-see illustration section out of the gutter if you can. Steve

    Steve, can you use 0.5 for both inside and outside margins, instead of having different margin size for both.

  • @StevePeel

    @StevePeel

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, but a wide outside margin doesn’t always look great, though it depends on the genre.

    Hi Stephen, am I correct to assume that if my book (with bleed) is between 24-150 pages I would be fine if everything is perfectly centered?

  • @StevePeel

    @StevePeel

    3 күн бұрын

    Yes, that should be the case, and widening the margins slightly to cater for more pages is easy.

    So if you want to just have the cover page with bleed, and every other page, without believe, how do you do that?

  • @StevePeel

    @StevePeel

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Dawn, covers are always with bleed, regardless the interior manuscript. So if you upload your manuscript at say 6x9 (no bleed) and you upload a cover at twice that at 12x9, Amazon KDP will instruct you to correct the size of your cover to fit the book including bleed and spine size. The best way to get the cover size is to simply use: kdp.amazon.com/cover-calculator
