To my mind, the ideology of Pakistan has played havoc. Religion does not make us a nation in political sense. Religion must remain a private affair.

Hoodhboy is a classic "secular" Muslim. No, we are not descended from Arabs. But also, no, the Vedas, Puranas, Ramayana, Mahabharata are not my cultural heritage, because they are (shudder) Hindu texts. Did Greek (and more generally, European) philosophers spurn Plato after the advent of Christianity? Of course not. But conversion to Islam means rejecting all the civilizational advancements of your biological ancestors.

It is good that Pakistanis are all lost and confused.

Gandhi never took help of relegion for freedom struggle. Rather he followed the policy of appeasement of muslim. He never protested the attack of muslim on Hindus, but he went on hunger strike, when there was violence against muslims. Read Ishtiyaq Ahmad Book on JINNAH.

Biggest poseur in the room--Pervez Hoodhboy. Can admit that his ancestors converted to Islam. But can never bring himself to admit that his even earlier ancestors were free thinkers, who developed sophisticated rules of grammar (Panini), charted the universe (Aryabhatta), made advances in mathematics (Brahmagupta), and wrote some of the most celebrated epics in world literature (Valmiki, Veda Vyas, Tulsidas). He feels compelled to reject all of that and solely cling to "Western" science. A modern-day and much mediocre version of Nehru--a "brown sahib" who insists in throwing out the baby with the bath water.

Similar things are happening in India though at very slow pace. I won't say muslim or other communities are holy cow. We all are getting communal. Thankfully bjp have realised it and now want to target[in positive way😅] the lower caste muslims in India and going to roll out more policies for them. Still I can see society divided from inside, though we talk normally to each other.

Please keep him away from India. No matter how left-wing a Pakistani, he never fails to hurl the "fascist" accusation at Modi and the BJP. The problem with so-called secular Muslims is that they will still deny their cultural heritage. Changing one's mode of worship is no big deal. Hindus do it all the time. From a Vaishnavite to a Shaivite to an Arya Samaji to a Nanak Panthi to a Namdhari, and even to an atheist. But that doesn't mean that we deny our inheritance, which begins with Mohenjedaro and includes within it the Vedas, Puaranas, Ramayana, Mahabharata, and all the way on to the Ram Charita Manas. But once someone converts to Islam, they seem to think that their cultural and civilizational forbears were the Arabs. Have you ever heard Hoodbhoy talk about how "we" Muslims lost all "our" intellectual advancements made during "our" Golden Period, from the 8th to the 14th century?! If you Muslims are not biologically descended from the Arabs, as he says here in his comment, then why do you trace your civilizational roots to them?!!
