BONUS: Turning a broken PC speaker into a microphone!

Музыка

Heya,
I found this broken speaker and turned it into a microphone! Lofi retro goodness!
You can turn any speaker cone into a mic or even use for example guitar cabs as sub kick mics without modifying anything etc.
What i forgot to mention in the video is that the speaker was the ”second speaker” of a PC speaker system, so it is just a passive speaker without any other circuitry in it. So its just a speaker cone connected to a wire coming from the ”main speaker” that has the amplifier circuit in it. So i could have used this as a microphone as is, but the original wire was broken and the 6,3mm jack connector is a lot more useful.
The EQ i added to the mic in the video was kinda mild, so you could definitely make it brighter for example! I just tried to take some of the resonant and muddy mid frequencies away and boost the highs and lows a bit, without getting too extreme.
I actually really like this sound with drums, i might use it with other mics in some drum setups!
Thanks love you bye

I find your YT work excellent. The banjos, euroracks and diy LoFi samplers seems to be enough crazy and twisted for me 😊. I am a new subscriber.

Maybe plug the bass reflex ports for a less peaky response. They resonate to extend the bass response in phase with the room sound, so it follows that they would do the same in reverse

Try set it up as a rotating ("leslie") microphone. It's a cool fx room mic. Even better fx if you can change speed during capture. Great videos!

Leslie stuff is definitely something im interested in and i’ve been watching all kinds on DIY leslie speaker videos on youtube! I might have to try and experiment some with some small motors i have laying around and the workshop

It's a simple fx to build. But in the long turn an emulation makes more sense for studio use because lacks unwanted motor / parts noise.

Hang the speaker mic by a string and twist it. It's the easy method 😅 You can also use it as a pendulum fx that way.
