Bontrager MIK Utility Trunk Bag Review

Good gear can be hard to come by, but the Bontrager Utility Trunk bag is definitely worth the money.
I just finished a bikepacking event called the BT700, and lets just say all my gear was put to the test and then some! I was very pleased with how this trunk bag functioned and kept all my electronics dry and dust free.
Those of you who watch the channel know that I have had some failures when it comes to bags so it was nice to see the Bontrager MIK Utility Trunk Bag is a piece of gear I can count on to perform as expected.
The next big tour I hope to do is the Empire State Trail and beyond. It should be epic and will also be my first time touring the USA! This will be a huge undertaking and if anyone would like to contribute to this adventure please check out the links below. Your support would be greatly appreciated!
So stay tuned for the BT700 videos, you will not be disappointed.

I was sold one of these by the trek store under their belief that the MIK system actually locks to the rack for security. And that the “key” is used to unlock it. But I’ve found that’s not the case. Just wondering if I’m doing something wrong or if it doesn’t lock. If not, then the key seems like overkill because as you noted you can just push the clasp with your finger to detach the bag from the rack.

Hello. Thanks for watching. I had thought the key was useless as well but there was a couple times on a recent tour were the bottom of the bag got pretty mucked up and I had to use the key to help get the bag off. As for security I think there are very few people who would know how to get the bag off. Cheers

Nice review and looks like a decent bag. I like the rain cover but I was a little confused when I think you said at 4.13 when I think you said: "Most of it can get wet to some extent". Do you mean that even with the rain cover, you might still get some water egress in a heavy downpour? Thanks and take care. JP

Hi JP. No I was talking about the fact that the contents of the bag can get wet to some extend without damage. I have some good news regarding the BT700 I'll message you on Whats App soon. Cheers

Curious what the price point is on the bag? I’m looking for a trunk bag for my city commutes as using panniers is a but of overkill at the moment. Thanks.

Hello. The bag comes in at $180 cad. But keep in mind the Bontrager 30 day guarantee. If you don;t like it for any reason you can return it no questions asked. Makes buying a bit more reassuring in my opinion. Cheers

My mom bought one kislux and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.

The top coloration is sun bleached ? Or is it the normal color?

Hello. The top color is lighter than bottom half when new. The sun may have faded it a bit.
