Bonsaify | Repotting a Collected Rocky Mountain Juniper Bonsai

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Eric repots a Rocky Mountain Juniper he collected about 8-9 years ago to get it show-ready.
00:00:52 Eric expects this repot to be straightforward because when he put it in the current growing container 3-4 years ago, it had a reasonably compact and good looking root ball. He's planning a slight angle change with should be relatively easy. The top soil needs a refresh as well.
00:01:37 Eric cuts the side of the root ball off with a small repotting sickle to remove the tree from the growing container.
00:02:09 Clear view of the bottom of the root ball.
00:02:39 Eric works on the bottom of the root ball. Maintaining a flat bottom makes it easier to firmly anchor it to the container at the end of the repotting process.
00:04:09 Time to comb out the top and sides of the root ball. Eric shares his strategy to ensure the tree fits into the new, slightly narrower container.
00:10:37 First round of root ball trim work is complete and Eric places the tree in new pot option #1 - a pot he handmade in 2006!
00:12:32 Option #2 is not a bonsai pot at all! Eric shares a fun story of how he procured it.
00:14:23 Back to option #1 and Eric explains his recommended tie-down process to firmly attach the tree to the pot.
00:15:12 Choosing the "front" of the container.
00:16: 22 Testing the tree in the container.
00:17:10 Side view to examine movement of the tree and the angle adjustment that Eric will make through the repot.
00:18:15 Using a [relatively small] mound of soil and slope to help with nestling the tree into position.
00:19:43 There's something Eric doesn't love with the angle so he discusses a few options to improve the visual stability.
00:20:41 Time to tie the tree in!
00:21:30 Adding soil - how do you think the tree looks in this pot? Let us know in the comments below!

Not a tanuki, promise! But yeah, it's a nice tree. Nature's bonsai, I just did a little polishing.

Looking solid. More about the pigtail wire tie in technique would be appreciated. Lesson Just not Karate only.
