This is Bob Ross style of wisdom right there with the same air of calm. I enjoy Peter's videos mostly for the wisdom and the sense of peace with nature and the world. It has been recommended to me to tune in to his channel as a form of meditation and it really has done wonders for me. His videos are of course a goldmine of horticulture/bonsai advice but for someone like me who is unlikely to actually go on to grow bonsai it's the simple pleasure of watching him work and speak about life and nature that makes me go back to his channel any time I need an uplift 🥰 Peter Chan is indeed a national treasure!

I'm afraid to say my very higlight is the cute little robin joining the show and snacking some fruit on the go. The rest is - as always - very informative and highly motivating, but the robin sets this video apart. ☺

Separating two trees in one pot. Me: manipulate carefully with chop sticks for 30 minutes. Both trees die. Peter Chan: Grab with a double fist and rip apart. 2 beautiful bonsai.

Too funny. I too have noted how aggressive he is with his specimens. Me? Probably just like you. I have not even attempted bonsai yet, so we'll see.

You will never know how your videos have helped me. Not only to create a better bonsai but to feel better about myself and those around me. To me you are a bonsai genius and an individual who sees potential in everyone and everything. Thank you so much.

Aww I used to have a little robin at work. He would jump at my pockets because he knew I had seeds in them. He would also bring his babies to me for some extra food :)

Don't have a bonsai, the algorithm brought me here. Stayed for the relaxing voice and great general information.

Just learned the robin just displays normal behavior. It does this with the wild bore in nature when they turn the soil looking for food just like Peter rough up the soil. He is the wild bore of bonsai to the robin.

Oh that bird was adorable, thank you for leaving that in!

I think my this is my favorite Peter Chan video to date. The robin stealing the fruit from the tree at the very end was icing on the cake.

The bird ate a berry off the tree!! So sweet. I love birds and trees.

I really appreciate you making videos that make the art of bonsai accessible to people who can't afford to spend hundreds of dollars on a single tree or those who don't have their own property to have big bonsai trees outdoors. You're incredibly talented and knowledgable. Thank you for all that you do!

I find that by doing bonsai - it has helped me to appreciate people more - no matter who or what they are. People are like trees. Everyone different but all have potential.

I love love LOVE this video! Firstly sir, you are an amazing teacher! I recently began my second...and hopefully more successful venture into the art of bonsai, and your videos have taught me more in a few weeks than I’ve ever learned from reading or any other means of educating myself. Most of my past dead trees resulted from my over zealous desire to repot anything I could get my hands on! You have taught me to be patient and repot/wire at the appropriate time. Thank you for your knowledge and for the way that you make your point understandable to us beginners. And I must comment on the bird. The mere fact that that sweet tiny bird was comfortable and fearless around you, is a testament to your calm demeanor and zen-like ability to become one with nature. I could watch this all day long.

Thank you so much for showing us how to work with difficult, intermediate-sized material. Most of us amateurs love to work with larger than tiny material but cannot afford the really large trees. So we usually have to work with older, poorly shaped stock. Love the 2-way split!

The Robins in Europe are members of the Chat family of birds. In North America, Robins are members of the Thrush family. Ours can be friendly, too, but yours could almost have his own KZread channel.

Absolutely fantastic, I started being interested in Bonsai in the 80s and didn’t continue with it, I’m 70 now and you have brought a tear to my eye, the regrets but also the joy that people will have whilst being connected to nature and also I will do some again and pass them on to my children, as I know one is interested in, as he borrowed my Dan Barton book. That gnarled trunk from the wire reminds me of a walking stick my dad made from a maple tree. The tree had been strangled by a vine and the trunk was heavily twisted and gnarled like that. It’s his “wizards staff” we call it. All he had to do was peel the bark off and sand the ends round and rub it with beeswax. So that appearance is something that exists in nature

In nature it is quite common to see trees that have had vines rapped around them and caused the trunks to have that effect of spiraling so I really like the way leaving the wire in looks! People around me often seek these trees out and they cut them and take the bark off and carve them to make walking sticks. 😊

Dear Mr Chan, there are so many things I like about your videos and you personally! Just want to let you know this: I have been interested in Bonsai for many years now - 20 or so in fact. But I have never really felt comfortable working on trees even though I tried a number of things, read and watched a lot plus people who know me say I have that proverbial “green thumb“. I have about 10 “pre-Bonsai“ in my garden I keep going back to but make no real progress with. After watching a couple of your very enjoyable videos I think I know why. All the Bonsai people I have watched so far - as brilliant as they are - have inspired but mostly intimidated me. The meticulous, pin-point accurate and perfectionist way they go about the hobby/art make it indeed seem like “rocket science“ as you say it should not be. At least not for most of us. So I thank you for your unpretentious, realistic, spontaneous and unlaboured way of doing Bonsai. It has defenitely revived my interest in Bonsai and it has more importantly shown me how all the knowledge and inspiration I have treasured over all the years can be actually put into use and action. I enjoy your videos so much. We have large oak trees in the neighborhood and I've sprouted about 15 acorns so far. In a couple years, who knows? I may have more little trees than I know what to do with. : ) Mitty

I used to live in a house with a massive Chinese Elm with a swing hanging from it. It was cool. It was messy in the spring because at least two hundred and fifty zillion little seedlings would pop up all over the yard. It never occurred to me to try this. Damn, I wanna go back in time.

i used to live in the country with beech trees on my property, every year i sprayed 100's of beech seedlings in my yard with weed killer, Damn, i wanna go back in time too

So fascinating! Sometimes it's hard for me to imagine how the smaller trees will look like aged. Do they simply thicken and scale while keeping the shape or do you create the lower half and it'll add height on top? A kind of age-comparison video would be super interesting how tress might look like after 5, 10 or 50 Years 🌱 ❤️
