Why is Steve Lehto in this? I’m not upset or anything just surprised to see my favorite automotive attorney in a NASCAR documentary.

When I see things like this that happen out of the norm in NASCAR’s history, it literally solidifies that NASCAR has the most versatile race cars in the world.

True stock car. I watched racing since I was six years old. I remember when the wing cars came on. I remember Richard Petty making Plymouth build him a wing car. I remember real, seat of your pants racing. It was something I looked forward to every race. I haven't watched "racing" in 30+ years. I miss it. Today, it's science. It's computers. It's penalizing innovation. It's penalizing.... Guts.

At 40 years old and a lifelong Richard Petty fan, thats been my favorite car of all time since I was a little kid first getting into NASCAR. I've always hated they banned that car even though it was before my time. Loved the distinct look of the different makes and models of cars back in the day all competing together. I wish there was an economically feasible way for someone with money to start a series where maybe they could reproduce some of the older cars and they race. I know thats a far fetched fantasy, but I would watch.

NASCAR did not ban the car..NASCAR said that if you're going to run that aero package then you couldn't run an engine more than 305 ci.

NASCAR did not ban them . Why do people insist on this . They changed the rules. If you wanted to run one of the aero cars you were limited to engine displacement of no larger than 305 cubic inches . This rule change took away the advantage and teams stopped using them. One ran in 1971 with a 305 built by Keith Black using a destroked 340 . The number 22 driven by Richard Brooks in the 1971 Daytona 500 was running with the field of big blocks and doing quite well until he got tangled up with Pete Hamilton . That was pretty much the end of running the winged cars in NASCAR .

Yet Bob and Ron Keselowski, in a wingless (slightly modified for stability) ex-Penske Cup 2010 era Dodge Charger, run well over 271 at Bonneville, and other records at speed meets around the country . . . no mention. Not even an aside that times may have changed but the accomplishment means at the very least as much as the #71 cars. Especially since it was two men doing it mostly by themselves, out of their own back pocket. Thanks, NASCAR . . . and Thanks Steve, you should have known better.

I stopped watching nascar when they got away from mostly stock cars. they all look the same other then headlight stickers. They also started the PC movement by banning winston , alcohol and tobacco advertising in 1990. To top it off, they let toyota into an american car sport.
