Bonanza - The Countess | Episode 75 | TV Western Series | Lorne Greene | English
Фильм және анимация
Bonanza - Episode 75 - The Countess - Unsettling events that could spell financial ruin for the Ponderosa mysteriously coincide with the arrival of a wealthy countess who seems determined to win the love of Ben Cartwright, the man she spurned twenty years before in New Orleans.
The Countess
Director: Robert Sparr
Writers: William R. Cox, William Powell (as William D. Powell)
Stars: Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker
Genre: Western
Country: USA
Language: English
Release Date: 19 November 1961 USA
Filming Locations: Paramount Studios - 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA
Storyline:
Ben Cartwright's former sweetheart Lydia (Maggie Hayes), now the wealthy and widowed Lady Lydia Chadwick, returns to Virginia City. Upon her arrival, she makes a beeline to the Ponderosa, hoping to rekindle her romance with Ben. When he resists her charms, Lady Lydia vows to ruin him financially so he'll be forced to accept her love and support (shades of Dürrenmat's The Visit!)
Revviews:
"Margaret Hayes guest stars as an American part of the English landed gentry and an old flame of Ben Cartwright's visits the Ponderosa. The addition of Little Joe is a surprise, when she and Ben were hot and heavy Adam and Hoss were kids and Ben hadn't married Michael Landon's mom.
At the same time the Ponderosa starts getting squeezed financially and the Cartwrights are having a cash flow problem. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Lady Chadwick's visit and the financial problems are connected somehow. Other than for Lorne Greene who sees the woman he once might have married.
Hayes and John Alderson as her accountant/servant give a good account of themselves. This episodes even a Cartwright as wise as Ben can be a fool for love sometimes." Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com

Oh man, the conniving thievery of them royals! Maybe Montague could make a fine comptroller for the Ponderosa if he gets his head on straight.
I wouldn’t leave her alone in that house in her state of mind.
Haha, Linda is too old for Ben. Ben likes younger women :-))
The moment the painting was revealed, plus when they found out about the mine and the lumberjacks, as well as the way Linda talked about her and Ben in New Orleans, I knew that she was behind it all. When Ben had come out of the land office and said that Montague's name was on the title, I momentarily thought it was only him and Linda had nothing to do with it, but then I realized that she was completely behind it And Adam's suspicion was not without merit

She's in on this
Joe treats Hoss with such rude contempt so often, laughihng at him. Poor Hoss! It does seem like "Ben" would have castigated Joe now and then for that terrible behavior.
I'm only half-way through but can't shake the feeling that the Countess's helper has arranged this trouble but to what end? Doesn't seem like the Countess needs to play tricks to catch Ben. The Cartwrights' obvious misstep is not asking the bank who took out so much cash that made their reserves so low. And they haven't tried to determine who has an interest in seeing them fail. Seems odd to me that Ben would talk about a loan because surely he has a healthy balance at the bank. If they really need cash, then they can sell some cattle or some land. 27:30 she doesn't blink when a fire breaks out? She set that too? I dunno. I don't get it. He was totally into her until he got distracted by the problems that I'm assuming that she caused. Now I don't get why Ben doesn't talk to the men to determine how to calm their fears. I still don't get why helping Ben with money would buy her way into his family. It would turn a friendship into business. At that time marriage was perhaps more about an arrangement than love but it still doesn't make sense to me. 42:55 "... witch." :D :D :D that was beautiful perfection!
I find some of these episodes could go another hour.

Adam should be 30 or 31 here cause he said the last time he saw that lady he was 11 and Ben said not quite 11 and towards the end she tells Ben she was trying to get something back from 20 years ago so if Adam was 10 almost 11 that would mean he is now 30 or 31 and we knows Hoss is like 6 to 7 years younger then him since Adam was 5 when he married Hoss's mom
