"Hoss scares a bear that has treed a green-clad little man, subsequently finds a buried strongbox filled with bags of gold dust and, when both the treasure and its owner disappear, unsuccessfully tries to convince his skeptical family that he'd discovered a leprechaun's hoard. But the whole town goes searching for the mythical men after a newly arrived Irish professor confirms the presence of multiple leprechauns...and their gold!" Written by shepherd1138 on IMdb.com
Reviews:
"I'm in my 60's, and am currently in home detention, like most of the country, because of a dang virus. This old episode of Bonanza came on the TVLand network and I remembered how much I enjoyed it as a kid, so I thought I'd give it another look.
It's a funny and enjoyable episode, but at my age, you can't help but break it down a little bit. You have to give some leeway to comedy, as suspension of disbelief is necessary for such things, but it's harder to swallow in your 60's than when you're 6.
I believe every member of the Cartwrights has proven their tracking ability in the past. And yet, somehow, nobody could see the tracks of these little men, their ponies, or the wagon they were using. It's a stretch, but it moves the story along, so what are you going to do? Let's call it poetic license. Still a warm and amusing episode of an old, beloved series.
BTW, one piece of fun trivia, Felix Silla, who played one of the "leprechauns", also played Cousin Itt, on the Addams Family." Written by Calaboss on IMdb.com
"One day out on the trail Hoss spies a bear getting ready to chow down on a little man in a green costume suitable to medieval times. He also finds a small box of gold dust and brings it back to the Ponderosa.
Where Dan Blocker's story is greeted with considerable skepticism by his father and brothers and Sheriff Ray Teal. But a traveling visitor to Virginia City from Ireland Sean McClory shows some interest. Of course it's just possible that the wee people of Ireland might have a colony in the American west.
Naturally there is a logical explanation to it all. But see this charming episode and find out for yourselves." Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com

This is one of my favorites of the whole series. I love the funny ones. My favorite part is when Hoss is sneaking around trying to find the leprechauns and calls out to them in a really soft squeaky voice......."where areeeee you?" and unbeknownst to him Little Joe is on the other side of the bush and replies (also in a soft squeaky voice) ......."over heeeeeere!" and then almost can't help but break out in bellowing laughter. Such great memories. Thanks! Can you please upload the one where Hoss flies with the bird wings? That's my other most favorite funny episode along with this one.

Well, I could not help to chuckle and laugh heartily this entire episode. Of course there was an undertone of the fitting in not fitting in ...the expressions of Hoss when he thought a leprechaun was returning his "you-who" calls but instead it was Little Joe imitating in the same way his response to Hoss....Little Joe's expression and his goffle of heartiful laughter certainly made me laugh harder. And the injuenity and teamwork of those Leprechaun's to bring down over six feet tall, strong Hoss was another hoot and holler. Oh and let us not forget when the ENTIRE Cartwright family finally believe Hoss and quickly decide to stop the exodus of the leprechauns from their campsite..without guns...I might add...some more ingenuity from the leprechauns is applied to all four Cartwright's...so funny even though in the end The Cartwright's stopped the leprechauns escaping with the wagon being pulled by a team of ***miniature*** horses! 😂 The last two acts are very memorable with Hoss turning over the townsfolk to give a" warm" welcome without any heckling, teasing laughter....The moral of this episode covers the big and small dilemma being ironed out in honest discussions when the entire group visits Sheriff Kofey's jail house. TVM for showing this episode!

And we once had another neighbor long ago that dyed his hair green till he was real old and dressed as a leprechaun - for a parade in SA. Life was fun when all the people of different heritages celebrated communally and shared foods, stories, fables, clothing styles, music, books...all with no animosity or stuffy possessiveness. Maybe we'll remember that joy one day.
