BOM at the Historic Rally Festival 2021

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In August 2021 we were invited to bring Binky along to the inaugural UK Historic Rally Festival. Of course, we hadn't finished it so we threw some parts at the mini hastily and dragged it along to the show anyway. Dozens of pre-2000 rally cars including some Group B monsters were in attendance and despite typical British summer weather, a good time was had by all.

Seeing Binky close to completion is so bitter sweet. My mate who I grew up with passed away last year at 25. We loved cars together, from elementary school to building and modifying our dream JDM machines (My S13 and his AW11). With every new release, we would race to notify each other and gush over it for weeks. I'm so pleased that the book of Binky is so near a beautiful conclusion, but so crushed he won't be here to see it shine in all its octarine glory. Thankfully every time I see this magnificent creation or get a notification of an upload, its a fantastic reminder of him, all the memories, busted knuckles, crazy bench builds, and times we shared together.

So, let me break from character and actually just be honest: You guys have done an ABSOLUTELY and UTTERLY PHENOMENAL job! This is beyond any shadow of doubt the single most amazing work of automotive ARTWORK on the whole of KZread. And the fact that it's taken so long to complete is not at all a detriment, but rather a testament, to the incredible amount of work you guys have put into it. From my neck of the world, here in Arizona, my sincerest of congratulations, Gentlemen, on a job so well done, I simply have no words to describe it. I’ve replied this to BOM’s regular content several times, but I hope they sort out the LSD’s some due to the greater power.....an open front differential with a viscous center LSD is NOT a good combo of you want to put the power to the ground and turn.....with all the potential extra power, it seems this is an oversight that will need changed, and these aftermarket LSD’s are off the shelf / available for the Celica drivetrain.....if it doesn’t get driven in anger though / is only a show car, then this modification is unnecessary.

Anyway, it's great seeing the Brits bring out irreplaceable rare rally cars and race them like crashing would be no big deal. The American version of this is roll them off the trailer, clean them, drive them slowly round a dry tarmac course, far away from danger, then put them back in the trailer.

Because I suddenly felt an irrepressible urge to do some utterly unnecessary calculations, I decided to work out the average spacing between Project Binky video releases. I looked up the date that Episode 1 was released (August 17, 2013), and the date that Episode 37 was released (December 18, 2021) and used a spreadsheet to calculate the number of days in between those two. I then divided that number by 36, which is the number of gaps between the 37 episodes, and discovered that the average gap between releases turned out to be 84.5833333333333 days (give or take a few nanoseconds). This, as it turns out, is remarkably close to the length of 3 lunar months. Have I just proven with maths that both Nik and Richard are very close to being classifiable as lunatics?

The starting episodes were really quite infrequent, my guess due to it at the time being more of a hobby project being funded out of their own pockets. They're far more regular now, due to the Patreon and the success of the KZread channel, so if you did a graph of time gap per video you'd see it progressively reduce

Warms the cockles of my heart to see Binky out in the wild. Eight long, hard years. Hope the alternator drive issues are now resolved. Loved the clutch pedal solution, great piece of engineering as with many other things Binky. Look forward to seeing this with the final few jobs sorted and ‘shaken down’. Grand job lads 👍

great job getting the Mini out there in the wild, and finally moving under its own power (though untuned). very nice to see a GT-Four there as well, upon which Binky's mechanical underpinnings are based. hope to see it in amongst the crowd this year, from this side of the pond.

It's lovely to see your beast out in the wild, seeing all those classic cars rallying about made me wish I was there. I even spotted a Ford Crapi actually running and in one piece but all I really wanted to see was Project Binky, the over compensating for something beast. Awesome!

MOANING SOUNDS beautyzone.cam/Sofia Sofia is a beautiful girl. 🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝 He's the person I love, he's my light day. The way the music flows and sounds is extravagant and fun. Loo is icon, legend, beautiful girl, princess, inspiration, a star. I could go on and on, understand this. I love NBA Loo.#垃圾

Seeing this really makes me miss my rally marshalling days, the sounds the sights and the odd brown trouser moment when a 6r4 goes well off course and wakes you up better 26 red bulls. Looks like I was a great show guys 👍
