I love it! It's a lot more closer to the actual toe/unit organization of the period giving you an accurate list build that just wasn't possible with the generic list and let's be honest the theater selectors were a great idea but got pretty bloated by the end. It is however a shame to hear a lot of chatter about min /max math hammer B.S.(How many flamethrowers can I take?)If that's your thing and your not into history great....I won't be playing with you

I agree, and i've said before it will be great to take a Airborne rifle platoon to represent the 101st, and a armoured platoon as the 6th Army, that is the way i want to play it. but the amount of cheese available from Min/Maxing is going to be a thing with those moving over from 40k, its a shame but it was bound to happen with a of warlords staff coming from Games Workshop

This is looking good to me so far! The only thing I can see that will be a challenge is that the only way with this to take a vehicle is taking an armoured platoon, which means you NEED to take 2 vehicles minimum. On the plus side you can take a howitzer AND an anti-tank gun in an artillery platoon (Which was always frustrating - this is what you get in the 8th Army starter army!)

  • @GDWargames

yeah it is a shame you need an armoured car as a tax to take a tank in 3rd edition, I agree taking a howitzer and a AT gun will be cool, but there will be a lot of players who will abuse it and take 4 howitzers etc, will have to wait and see what they put out next, :)

Also can't quite see the point of the Recce Platoon... It's essentially a Rifle Platoon, with less options, and you MUST put them in transports rather than you MAY put them in transports, and you only need 1 squad not 2. I wonder if there's a points benefit to doing it this way, otherwise why not just take an extra squad in your rifle platoon and give them a transport vehicle? Maybe there will be some sort of platoon cohesion rules?

I rather think you are having a negative approach to multiple weapons on the table. For instance, suppose your mug opponent does field 6 Nebelwerfers, where is he going to put them? Like suppose the opposition is the British with the free FOO, that Artillery strike is going to drop on at least one platoon Nebs, possibly both of them because there is not a lot of space for these things on a 4' x 4' table. Then your own mortars can trounce the remainder. I like playing my son on a 6' x 4' table for a bit of space. These weapons do have some range after all. Not knowing the points cost, I am thinking An armoured car Plt HQ, a tank, I have Churchill or Cromwell. Two 3" Mortars, Plt Lead and 3 infantry sections, and ancillaries like snipers, C in C and my battle taxis, and I still dream of a Churchill Crocodile.

The sky isn’t falling yet, we have no idea what the rules for mortars and artillery are. The heavy weapons platoon only allows for medium mortar not heavy so will probably see heavy mortars in a company level platoon. Also the artillery battery refers to field artillery, which I’m guessing refers to light artillery pieces such as 25pdr, 75mm etc and possibly medium artillery pieces. Note that MLRS will most likely have their own platoon structure same as heavy and super heavy artillery/at given that these units were more brigade or division based assets not platoon.

These overly convulted army organization charts are just the same thing 40k pulled in 3rd edition to sell more miniatures. The old GW crew back up to their old tricks again.

There is a tax as you need a Rifle platoon per 'other' platoon, so 2 rifles platoon if you want to run a Heavy Weapons and an artillery platoon...which is really just one officer and two 5-man squads that is really a tax by the amount of indirect you're throwing, they will only be there to sit on objectives. I also agree on the potential abuse that new system can bring, but it would also make for more thematic battles/campaign, but I only picture it happening on large tables, with lots of model, more than anyone one person could have. I'm more curious now about the Officer: It is 'Platoon Commander' not a Lieutenant 1st or 2nd, so would Captain/Majors be bought as a platoon commander now? Do they still have morale bonus and what about snap to? Would a Rifle officer or even armoured commander be able to boost morale or give order to let's say, engineers or even artillery?

You only need two rifle platoons if you want to take two of the same support platoons, 6th paragraph of the article, so if you want two armoured platoons you need two rifle platoons, but one armoured and one heavy platoon is only one rifle platoon
