For those who dont research, the Yungas road is closed to all vehicles except for tourists on bicycles. A new by-pass was built several years ago. This video is historical now.

Since there are fatal accidents nearly everyday on this 40 mile stretch of road, presumably when two vehicles are trying to squeeze by each other, then wouldn't it be much safer and make more sense to just designate certain times the road can be used going one way? For example, between the hours of 6 am and 12 noon, only vehicles climbing the mountain are permitted (assuming the climb would take less than 6 hours) and then between 12 noon and 6 pm, only vehicles descending are permitted, and just keep rotating it like that every 6 hours. It would greatly reduce the loss of life.
