Wynton Marsalis did a spectacular job with the music.
About time. I was an extra in this movie in 2016 and they reshot it twice times. It looks amazing.

they went two times for reshoots? That's not a good sign for a indie film

@@TravisHouze You're right, but the director was financing this movie himself, so he had no other producers to answer to. It was a real labor of love for Dan Pritzker.
As someone who has always loved jazz and New Orleans I can't wait to see this

I am excited because Buddy Bolden deserves this type of homage, an appreciation for his legacy.
I'm so excited for Gary Carr. And look at Ya Ya. 💖💖 He stold every scene in The Deuce and I was just thinking about how much I wanted to see him cross over to a movie.

Yes ma'am
Nobody in any of the discussions mentioned that Bolden is mostly fictive and based on the book "To the Slaughterhouse" by Michael Ondaatje. That surprises me. There is not much known about the life of Buddy Bolden.
If only they knew the New Orleans dialect and accent. That will make it more interesting. No place in the world is like New Orleans. And it's not pronounced New Orleeens, it's pronounced New Warlinz. I hate when they make a movie about New Orleans, and have actors doing a country accent. Actors know how to do a New York and New Jersey accent but dont know ours. I guess our dialect IS distinctive 🤷🏿♂️. New Orleans is not country, and we wasn't always part of America. We different from the rest of the country. Slavery was different there. Slavery there was like the rest of the Caribbean. One of the names we call New Orleans is Northern Caribbean because of the people who settled there. We have a lot of Caribbean influences and our architecture is Caribbean. And most of the white folks back then weren't Anglos, they were immigrants coming from Italy, Ireland, Germany, and ashkenazi Jews from eastern Europe. New Orleans has nothing to do with Anglo Americans. It is a French and Spanish settlement. And our culture is African, Caribbean, French, and Spanish. Nothing Anglo American aka (English Americans) stop thinking of New Orleans as a sterotypical southern city because it's not. It's a Caribbean city

Yaya!
This is a great movie! These young people of today really need to see this movie about how it was for us black people many years ago. They need to know how their great, great, great grandparents had gone through so much back then for them to act a fool today in 2019. Like the honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan said back in 1994 that when we forget about our past, it haunts our future. I see it now some 25 years later after he spoke about that.

The book by Michael Ondaatje is named:" coming through slaughter". It also is a mix of the very few facts that are known about Bolden and imagination. The jump from the parachute never happened, for instance. The book is described as fragmented and so is the movie.
Damn this looks a classic!

Just finished watching this movie . The casting was great but the directing of the movie was Horrible .
Wonder what a modern day take on this would look like? Kanye
oh, another movie about the suffer of a jazz musician
This is the worst movie I've ever seen. The way they describe us as black during this time in America. Some white man had to write this.
