Perfect music for the grand entrance.Dont you just love the beauty of Liz. The only other music that could rival is The Romsn March in Ben Hur

I could have sworn that Bolero WAS in the movie. It's what I remember from when I was a kid. Thanks for making the video, even if it wasn't the music in the movie, it's what it should have been, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it.

What an astoundingly beautiful woman Elizabeth Taylor was - even to her last years. Probably one of, if not the, beatiful in living memory. A whole Interstate ahead of most, many of whom were merely plain without makeup. Loren & Welch, & a handful of others, were close. 🥴 In fact, thinking about it, the majority of stunning actresses were British! - And this has to be one of the most 'epic' entrances ever. A whole masterpiece in its own right.

Alex North got an Oscar nom for his score to this movie. This sequence of Cleopatra entrance into Rome has some of the film's best music. But, sure let's just stick in Ravel. 😂😂

Truly .... CLEOPATRA with all its conservatory has withstood the passing of time !!
The music Bolero is a very good piece but it conveys hope & happiness. The original musical score for this part of the parade is more fitting. It conveys power over millions by the Pharaoh and the Egyptian army.

Supposedly, Elizabeth Taylor didn't want to accept this part (Cleopatra) that had been offered to her. Her friend, Burt Reynolds, suggested to her to ask for a million dollars to take the part to price herself out so that she wouldn't have to accept the part. This amount of money had never been paid previously. To her surprise, the makers of the movie accepted her terms. The rest is history.

She didn't know him then. 😂 The million dollars stuff was a joke initially. But to her surprise Walter Wanger agreed. He wanted in this movie that much.
That was fun.
What was also amazing is the fact that Elizabeth (as Cleopatra) and the young boy actor had No safety harnesses on!!! I can't imagine how nervous both actor's were. One other interesting note is that a large part of the crowd towards the end are shouting Liz not Cleopatra or the queen. The movie was filmed at the height of her affair with Richard Burton and quite a scandal at the time. A congresswomen in the USA wanted Elizabeth denied re-entry to the States and the reason would be: Erotic Vagrancy (lol). Nobody knew if the crowd would play their acting part's or be offensive to Elizabeth due to the affair. There was No such animosity given towards her and in their joy shouted Liz, Liz. I know it's hard to hear the crowd and perhaps some editing was done but once in awhile I can hear the word Liz if I listen just right to the TV.

Il Bolero di RAVEL non è la musica adatta per questa scena. Ci vuole una musica più simile alle musiche del tempo dei Romani con trombe , tamburri , ecc.. Grazie per questo video!!!.
Alex North's original soundtrack is a much richer and more original composition than Ravel's "Bolero" which you can compose in 10 minutes. Ravel himself hated his piece and said it's the most primitive thing he has ever written. Look it up.

From Fox record..the kid was tightened with a belt while Liz was holding behind him..Both had special life insurances just in case.
